Hi all....Picked up a 98k from a good friend today..She has a laminate stock on her that was cut just ahead of the mid bbl band..would it be worth restoring.or should I pick up a stock?

Cheers. .

Restore it. Many dufflecuts were brought back that way and repaired later with drilled holes on a jig, epoxy and delrin or steel pins.

No...no serial number inside the stock unfortunately. ..anyone have experience woodwork wise on mauser stocks ? I need the dimensions forward of the rear handguard band..lots of wood past the band groove in the stock to work with..

If you have a donor laminate stock to cut the forward section off that would be the way to go. A lot of guys put a piece of 1/4 inch brass tube in the cleaning rod hole in the stock to line it up with the cleaning rod hole in the forward section. Then drill the stock for a couple hardwood dowels that line up with corresponding holes in the forward section. Epoxy glue the dowels on both ends and force the forward section into place on the stock. If that makes any sense to you. There are duffle cut repair tutorials on the K98 forum for reference. The stock may be a late war production if it has no serial numbers inside. Those are in demand for restoring sportered late war rifles back to original.
