Hi
I have an original Mauser-Vergueiro 6.5x58
all numbers match except the safety, which I read is common.
Overall it is in excellent condition with a like new bore and even still has cosmoline under the stock.
apparently these are somewhat rare when still in there original cal.
Can anyone ball park a value of this rifle?
Thanks

Even if the action still has the 6.5 mm caliber marking, it was converted to 8x57 mm. Shorter barrel is a dead give away.

Like Andy has observed your rifle is a arsenal re-worked 6.5x58mm M1904 which was converted into a 8x57mm M1904/39, easy to spot because of the shorter barrel and stock, different front sights and gas escape hole drilled into the recevier wall.

An un-altered 6.5x58mm original version rifle is rare these days as most were converted to 8x57mm and one would probably be in the $800-$1000 range in very good condition.

thanks for the info, I was assuming it was still 6.5 because there is no other cal. designation.
I'm simply gonna chamber an 8mm rd into it and see what happen's
I'll keep you posted.
cheers

the previous comments are all spot on.
Your rifle was converted to 8mm Mauser, and is worth around $350.00 if in excellent condition.

I owned several of these rifles, and most are heavily pitted below the wood line, check it out before you intent to fire it.

I got a 1904/39 a little while ago in the cosmoline like yours. For all matching check the safety just because that was the piece that was most often lost on the rifle.
They are beautiful rifles and they shoot very well, unfortunately (or fortunately for those of us who appreciate them) they aren't to expensive and since they have been converted to 8mm Mauser there is a good supply of ammo out there. For some reason they keep coming up in the cosmoline likely because people seem to think they are still in the 6.5x58 and never bother to check.

I recommend just enjoying the rifle as they can be a difficult sell mainly due to a lack of interest in collecting them (i.e. supply and demand). If you are looking to sell something around the 300-400 mark would be fair but leaning towards the 300 mark if you want to sell it quickly.
