Mausers in the wood pile...

It shoots really well!
First time I had it out it shot 3 in an inch at 85y using 147fmj .

Good luck with yours and post some results!

Since we're talking about Mausers and scopes, in the near future I'm looking at getting either a Bad Ace or Addley Precision scope mount for my K98, curious as to what kind of accuracy I can really get from the old girl. The question being what is a decent scope that can withstand the recoil of 8mm Mauser? Have my eye on a Nikon Prostaff at the moment, any thoughts?

No reason that Nikon won't serve you well.
Actual accuracy is near Impossible to gauge, you won't know until you try, i would expect 3-4", 5 shot groups at 100y and be happy with anything better.
The standard for the Enfield sniper was 3" groups at 100, and the service standard for the m1 was 4", 8 round groups.

Sounds good, thanks!
Earlier this year I had played with the stock a little, some shims here and there and a little sanding in the barrel channel. Haven't put it to paper yet, but hits a 9" gong at 200 yds everytime so I'm hoping for great things. She loves Sellier & Bellot 196 grs

Michell's mystery missing mint mausers continually show up out from under foreign woodpiles at their store.Their Yugo mausers have teak wood not lowly elm.I have a BUBBA'd K98 that looks like 100mile of bad road and shoots 1/2 groups at a 100 yards with factory wearing a old Busnell Banner 4X.Avoid Simmons or Tasco and the scope should hold up.

Great shooting!

Finally got her together, and down to the range to test out some handloads, IMR 4895 pushing a Sierra 220gr sp. Didn't have enough time to go through all of them, but from 39.5 to 43.0 grains the biggest group I got was 1.65, smallest was .80 shooting 4 shot groups, turns out those 220 gr ain't cheap...lol

Here's the old girl anyway, thinking a sort-of scuffed up vintage Weaver might look a little more period correct, but damn can she shoot :)

If you are going to drill & tap for a Balkan war style "sniper" to shoot with, it would probably be best to start with a generic 8mm '98 that has already been sporterized to varying degrees, such as those sold by Tradex. Cheaper to start with and you won't ruin a pristine collectable milsurp that would otherwise continue to gain in value.

Too late Quiet. I bought the ZRAK scope and mounts late last fall and had my 'smith D&T the receiver. It was a nice clean job and is an authentic copy of the sniper rifles that the Serbians used during the conflict. I've only had it out once just to zero the scope, so I have some work to do with handloads for it. The initial ones were 175 gr. cast boolits.
