I recently came across this article on the Forgotten Weapons website on the manufacture of a modern P08 in the 1960s, a cooperative effort between Mauser and Interarms in the US, including a .pdf reprint of a series of articles by Jan Stevenson for Gun Facts Magazine in 1970. There is considerable detail on the frustrations of trying to manufacture this complex, hand-fitted pistol on a modern assembly line, as well as a history of the pistol.

It's probably not news to the hardcore Luger collectors here on CGN, but I found it fascinating.

Another interesting link is to the German gunsmith, Herbert Werle (some pages in English as well), who among other things, makes custom P08s, including one in .45 ACP! (Pics here) There are some other links to Werle if you Google him.

I have been searching, but the name escapes me. I am thinking it may have been "alfa" or "alpha" but nothing is coming up and am not sure if that was the name. They may have been in quebec. I was at a trade show totally unrelated to firearms and right on their table was a Luger frame along with all kinds of machined and possibly cast items. The frame wasnt finished, just most of the major machining. This was 4-5 years ago.
