Maverick 88 18.5 or Churchill 15 First Firearm Purchase

First firearm purchase for HD and target shooting for fun in the bush. Probably will be used once a year.

Maverick 88 I have read is reliable, but the Churchill shockwave in stainless looks really good.

Churchill is slightly cheaper.

I would suggest spending more on something nicer, but given the two choices I would go for the Maverick

Id go maverick. They take many mossberg 500 parts so you could upgrade later. The maverick has stood the test of time as well

Id go Maverick, had both at a time.. if you can swing a bit more it would be even better Mossy 500 or 870

I've never had a bad maverick. I cant say that about the rest.

For hunting either is fine.
For HD I wouldn't use anything cheaper than a Mossberg 500 including the mav.

I love my maverick 88. I have many 400/500 mossbergs, but my 88 is used most. Its light, durable and fairly easy to strip and clean.
If you get the 88, make sure it is the later model with 2 action bars. Early ones had a single action bar which could be pumped off axis causing it to bind or grind as its pumped. Mossberg has made almost 7.5 million 500/88 shotguns, so its a pretty proven platform. Turkish shotguns like the churchill are ok, but they can be hit or miss. Your mileage may vary.
