The other day i was out blasting cans with the ol' maverick 88, and out of nowhere it goes click when it shoulda gone bang. Checked the shell, small dimple in the primer, put it back in the chamber, and it went bang. I got about 5 light strikes total in about 75 rounds. Ive had the gun for years, passed about 1000 rounds through it, first time it's ever had a hiccup. Anybody else have experience with this?

I had one of these and had the same thing happen before. Cleaning the bolt and pin channel is a good idea but I never cleaned mine. I did find that if I racked it forward nice and hard it would prevent this from happening.

Never us those in Mav 88 they will jam your action shut. They fire-form too much and the base of the shells will get caught in the mating grooves where the barrel locks into the receiver.

If you are using ammo you haven't used before, I think you have an ammo problem, not a gun problem. If the firing pin strikes the primer, and the round doesn't fire, its normal for the firing pin indentation on the primer to appear as if it was made by a light strike. Upon firing, the primer backs out of the shell against the pressure of the firing pin, then is pushed back into the primer pocket due to pressure against the bolt face. If your problem has arisen out of the blue, with ammo you normally shoot, its time to strip and clean ole Betsy.
As an afterthought, did the misfires occur in the cold? If so, once again the cure is to clean the gun.

An I net check revealed that this is common in newer model 500's and model 88's with the firing pin return spring. All types of remedies suggested but the problem is rectified by a Mossberg repair centre replacing the entire trigger assembly. Grech's in Ontario is the warranty depot and they will fix it for you.
