I have a maverick 88 with aproximately 200 light target loads through it. Now it Light strikes the primer every 4th or 5th shot. Is this a common problem with them? i know its a cheap shotgun but is there something i can do? any help would be greatly apreciated. thanks.

Beyond field stripping, as in removing the trigger group to clean it, and beyond that disassembling the trigger group. I wouldn't go that deep if your not a mechanically inclined person with a photographic memory. These are by far the most complicated trigger groups I've come across.

Simply pop out the pins that hold the entire group in the receiver to remove the entire package as a whole. Spray it down with brake cleen. Lightly oil the pivot points with a light weight oil and re-install the group.

Maybe the firing pin channel is dirty also. While the trigger group is out rack the slide to the rear and lift the bolt and shuttle out. Brake cleen it while depressing the pin repeatedly and reassemble. Do not get oil in the firing pin channel. Getting the bolt and shuttle lined back up with the guide bars can be a bit of a pita.

Too much oil, too thick if oil, and oil in the wrong places is just as bad as filthy dirty.
I use multiple types of oil/grease, specifically for it's particular purpose for each part in each gun. There's no such thing as 1 lube for all jobs.

Or send it back. Or take it to a smith.

i strip it to the bare reciever. have taken apart the bolt assembly as well. havent taken the trigger group apart, but it always comes out to fully clean the rest of the gun. i guess ill try giving it a clean as well. theres videos for everything on you tube so im sure i can find one. and yes stray, the barrel is seated properly on it. far as i know anyway. its always fully tightened down.

You don't ever need to take the thing completely apart for cleaning. That's how springs etc go missing and parts get put back incorrectly. Have you changed the brand of ammo?

Ya. have tried all kinds of different ammo from light trap loads to slugs and buckshot. same thing. and nope, this shotguns is completely stock done no work to it and have added no accessories.

I did a quick google look and there is quite a bit out there involving Mav 88 and light hammer strikes. Several basement gunsmiths suggested several things BUT I would return it for service under the warranty. Some quality control issues have appeared in late 88's that need factory repair.
