Okay so I bought a maverick 88 a while ago with a short barrel and pistol grip. I want to put a forend grip on it but the maverick foreend doesent allow for that.

So I just want to double check with you guys to see if this is the right part and if I need anything else so I can put the grip together. ( other than the grip itself)

Thanks, Mclean

You will need to buy 3 parts off a Mossberg 500:

fore arm
action slide tube
nut

Make sure the fore arm and action slide tube are the same size (7 5/8" OR 6 1/2")

Awesome thanks for the info guys, does it matter which length I get, I have an 18.5" barrel on her.

Would the longer one mean, more shots ?

Thanks, Mac

Hey MrClean, not to hijack your thread at all......:D

but I also just recently bought a Maverick 88 with pistol grip, it was a complete impulse buy at wholesale sports....I was just looking for some 7mm-08 ammo! Anyway, haven't even shot it yet, but I took it down to clean up all the grease, and see if I could get the safety to work with less than 15 lbs force before I take it out. During the clean up, I pulled the plug out....WTF? Niiiiice. Cheap piece of dowel with some O-rings on it. Anyway, here's the question to those who might know:

By pulling the plug, what do I gain as far as extra rounds? Also, is it kosher to pull the plug when taking this in the bush (I got it primarily as a pack gun for bow hunting)? And are there any other legal issues regarding having that plug pulled, during storage or transportation? Thanks.....I know I could probably look all this up, but prefer to hear from the Nutz. It's easier and more reliable.

With plug holds 2 in magazine. Without plug holds 5 in magazine.
When your hunting (can't remember if it's all or just some birds) your supposed to have it limited to 2 in the magazine.
If your going to use it for anything other than hunting you don't need the plug, I took mine out and kept it in the safe incase I ever decide to start using a shotgun for hunting.

BAHAHAHA!!! I did the EXACT same thing in the G.P. Wholesale Sports! Seen it over in the corner beside the "Evil Baby Eater" zoo display case, thought for a second, asked to see it and before I could rack it 2 or 3 times I said "I'll take it!" In Alberta, your magazine must be plugged to 2 rounds, plus one in the chamber for hunting game birds. Not just migratory but native species as well. Hunting anything else or carrying for animal defense you can pull the plug and put 5 in. Tried any 3" yet? :p I'm gonna give some 3" Winchester Super X slugs a try :D

Thanks for the replies, I'll be sure and keep that crappy cheap bit of 1/8" dowel with the splintery ends and O-rings in my tackle box...!

I haven't even shot it yet, but will slowly work my way up to 3" slugs. At least once, just so I can say I did it. Maybe then my next question will be:

How long before a 43 yr old broken wrist is healed?

Haha not anytime soon with the 88. I picked up a bunch of Remington managed recoil slugs from Bartons that are quite tame, noticably less than standard 1600 fps 1 oz. loads. I imagine 3" are gonna hurt lol.
