Great minds think alike/fools seldom differ.:p I was internet window shopping last night and came to the same conclusion on the Maverick. You'll have to wait until Tuesday to grab one though, Frontier is closed on Mondays.

My dad had one when we lived in B.C. = zero problems
I had one for a while = Zero problems
A good friend has one = Zero problems
They are about the best bang for the buck on the defender shotgun market, though not fancy they are awesome reliable. The factory mossberg stocks have a pretty long LOP and stiff recoil pad is my one and only complaint. Easy fix with a quick cut and grind-to-fit pad or short LOP stock to replace it.

never had an issue with mine

A Maverick 88 is a Mossberg 500 with zero options. The main points are the cross bar vs tang safety, lack of drilling and tapping, no metal slide on the pump, and only available in a plastic stock. I think the biggest issue is the arms being directly into the plastic of the fore grip rather than into a metal slide under the plastic(that being said lack of metal make the finish last longer where the slide rubs). And I guess the drill and tap if you plan to add a sight.

But that being said I own one and they are great guns. The only difference in reliability that I can see is in the fore grip and even that is sort of marginal.

They are a great gun, I bought mine a couple years ago and got the barrel threaded for chokes. That was the only down side to them.
