I'm looking for a new shotgun so that I can shoot skeets with my buddies while camping.

The #1 factor that I am considering is cost. I don't want to spend more than $300 on a shotgun, as I won't be using it that much and I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.....or save it....

So, here's the question. Which one would you go with with.

Mosberg all the way. I am a big fan of the 870 shotgun but the maverick is a great gun too. You will get a gun that is made in the USA too (better quality IMO)Plus if you plan to shoot skeet you will like to have a little longer barrel. And the price seems very low for a new shotgun.

since you say you want to shoot skeet, a security/police/defender style isn't what you want. they have a short barrel, and you need the longer barrel with choke tubes for skeet. in your case i would suggest the Maverick 88 Combo. it comes with 2 barrels: 18.5" for defense/bear/camp gun and 28" for trap/skeet/birds.

i have a Maverick 88 Combo. it's an awesome all around gun for the money. i have a bird gun, but can swap the barrels and have a camp gun as well. it takes maybe 30 seconds to change the barrels. i think total cost for my gun was around 350 shipped from wholesale. i highly reccomend you go this route.

i would go for the grizzly if i were planning a zombie/tactical build though. more aftermarket options, since apparently remington 870 components fit it. but you want to shoot skeet and keep the cost down, so nevermind.

summing it up:

neither guns you have mentioned will do the job for you. you need a longer barrel. Mossberg Maverick 88 Combo is the best bet for you.

here's the wholesale link. close up the spaces in http, copy and paste into your URL bar.

Lots of longer barrels go through the EE here pretty cheap if you wanted to add one to the grizz for skeet. But unless you are looking to justify buying a cool short barrel shottie, take the other advice and just buy one that comes with a suitable skeet barrel (or two).

I heard of 2 events of the Maverick 88 failing, one event was a grizzly bear encounter. If looking for a camp gun, go ahead.

I would rather have the DA shorty.

For skeet IMO Maverick 88 is better, but I'd probablr rather have the Grizzly.

anyone has/plaid with both? which is a higher quality gun?

Haven't played with the Dominion Arms, but the Maverick is a cosmetic only, it looks frail & ready to break. Only nice things about is the blueing which is incredibly shiny.

i'm just going on what i know through personal experience. the 870 is awesome. it's tough, reliable, and just happens to be a shotgun. also to the best of my knowledge happens to be one of the most easy to customize shotguns out there. plus once you start farting around with it, that silly notion that you don't want to spend any money on it will quietly and quickly back out the door.

Get a Mossberg 500 (better quality then the Maverick) and still under $300

In the SIR/Cabelas Catalog they have the Mossberg 500 with the security and hunting barrels for under $300.

So I vote mossberg 500 as well if you need the longer barrel.
If just the short barrel will do, I vote the grizzly just cause it's cooler imo.
