Maverick88 VS Mossberg 500 ?

They are different guns. The Maverick is built cheaper than the 500, with cheaper materials. Maverick is a subsidiary of Mossberg though. I have never owned a Mav but I am contemplating it.

I think it's more or less a case of Toyota or Lexus; same company but the higher model might have upgraded part material.

I've had my mav 88 for almost three years now and it just keeps chugging along. Essentially, the Mav 88 is a Mossy 500 action but with a cross-bolt safety instead of one on the tang. As well, the finish is a little less durable (in my less than educated opinion) and supposedly the foreend will not swap out with Mossy 500 ones. Buttstocks will interchange (I have a Knoxx on mine) without any problems. Basically, they are a decent, reliable gun that wont cost you much. the kicker is, that a Mossy 500 wont cost you very much more and a Norinco 870 clone is about the same with far more customization options.

The Maverick 88 used to have only one action bar that made him harder to pump because of the biding but I don't know if it's still the case. Mossberg 500 have dual action bars. Also, the forearm was ALL plastic and for this reason was very prone to breaking a the connecting point with the action bar.

Maybe newer model have this flaw corrected.

Mossberg 500 barrels are interchangeable with the Maverick 88, I believe. If you want a rifled barrel for a Maverick, the 500 will work. My Mav's been terrific; easy to maintain, but the finish is a bit thin and wears off more easily than more pricey brands, I'm sure.

They sure are. A friend of mine put my 18.5" barrel for my Mossberg on his Mav.

I have a Maverick 88 Combo, 18" Smooth Bore and 26" MC ribbed barrell, all for only $289!

What a Steal, I have moded the stock, and installed a rail w/ shot holder and a red dot. I can hit the 12"X18" GONG on my target range at 200 yards!

LOVE IT!
