Ok so here we have a picture from an article in the forum here. Just how far would a .40cal be accurate from a good shooter?? Those cops seem to be pointing at someone at a fair distance...

that depends so much on the pistolero-a few years ago there was a story about a cop at some games that had his primary go bad and didn't miss a beat , went to his secondary( a pistol) and still scored from 200 yards out- back in the old days 400 yards with the colt 45 saa were not unheard of- i've done 250 with a blackpowder old army- and the sights on an smg( which uses pistol cartridges) are typically 100/200 yard flips-

Accuracy? Maybe in this case it should be more important to consider the decision to shoot or not to shoot. What's beside the target? What's behind the target?

If the cop is pointing his pistol at some scumbag pointing a rifle at a fellow officer 90 degrees off to the side, shoot! .40S&W (just a guess) is lethal beyond 100 yards?

I was shooting steel silhouettes from about 85 yards with my Walther P22 and rarely missed. That is at the range and shooting still steel target. 40S&W could be a bit tougher to hit moving flesh target at that distance I think.

Now having another look at the picture I'd say oficer on the left is about 12 yards away from threat and officer on the right is quite a bit farther, maybe 18 yards. Not too big of a deal.

I know people that shoot 1X2 inch bulls eyes consistently with revolvers at 50 yards... I get all my rounds on paper these days.. gotta either get my eyes done or get new glasses and get back at it...

I know these cops, they are shooting 9mm, not 40 S & W. They also couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, (seen them at the shooting range)

Nice.........!:D

There is an article in a new copy of a magazine I just got, it has an article on the San Diego Police and HK and about an off duty officer that made a 100 yard take down shot with his service pistol, hit the perp in the leg.

Most handguns can shot fairly well out to 100m, my open gun will group around 3.5" at that distance off a rest.
However the shooter has to be capable of it, I can remembr setting up a two paper and two steel stage at an IPSC match once, all targets at 40m. It was surprising how few got their hits. I saw Open shooters empty every mag on their body a still have misses.

OK. Since people here seem to be mesmerized by this cops in the above pic, here are a few more pics from other perspectives to aid in the "investigation".:p

I bet you that the off duty officer aimed at the Perpetrator's center of mass and ended up shooting him in the leg.

The bullet will not suffer such a dramatic drop in trajectory. Federal reports a 9.3" drop wit their 124gr hydrashock with a 25 yard zero, which is what most pistols will produce out of the box. A shot to the stomach would be a more likely result if the officer was aiming for a COM shot. Then again, you have to add in adrenaline, flinching, and the level of training and yeah, a leg shot from a COM intended shot at 100 is probably the result.

I'll take ignorant BS flames for $400, Alex.

I compete with the same 5946 in this situation and I am 100% confident that I can make lethal hits at 50 metres and I have never tried anything further. I have also been in tactical situations like the one pictured here and I would be comfortable in the suitability of the system to make that shot.

As far as the personal accuracy of those two members, I don't know - one might be a Connaught Cup champion for all any of us know. The hardware would make it possible to make the shot if required.
