Now I don't mean Effective or accurate range I mean if shot out at 45 degrees how far will it go out and still be dangerous/lethal to a human.

Now for the reason: I just bought a rifle (the custom ATR one in the exchange) but unfortunately I am still waiting on my PAL so I can't take possession so it is being set to a friend with a PAL.
He lives out on the sticks with nothing but farmland around but it is out in Saskatchewan so the likely hood of him shooting it with a suitable back stop... or any thing other then completely flat land behind the target is slim to none.
So I just want to give a pre-warning to watch out and make sure there is nothing for 5K in front of the gun. or what ever the distance is.
He has mostly black power guns and .22's so I just don't want him under estimating the range of it.

175gr Sierra HPBT @ 2650 fps, 33 degree firing angle - bullet will go 5000 yards (4.5km, 2.8 miles), coming down at 500 fps and 62 degrees. Time of flight is half a minute

Burgers will do it in less time with more lethality and a lower firing angle. The distance travelled will be much greater.

I would love to see a Burger out perform a Sierra bullet, that would be an interesting day. I think the guacamole would cut the BC of this Burger down significantly.

I was target practicing at 1000m with a .308 this winter. I thought that was pretty much the effective range of the calibre. For years I have been shooting in the same area and all my projectiles would come down into the target area (a small bank of sand) at about a 30 degree angle and break up. I have traditionally been shooting 168 gr hollow points. I would occasionally find projectiles around the target area. This year I couldn’t get hollow points so I tried Ballistic tip projectiles. Well holy mackerel! The bullets were impacting the ground and ricocheting over two thousand meters past the target area which was 1000 meters away from me. The projectiles were impacting 3000 meters away and making one heck of a splash! It was a total surprise to me and it has never happened with hollow points. After a couple shots with the ballistic tips my spotter caught the splash of the rounds in the Ocean way the heck off shore. I wasn’t dangerous or anything as I can see probably 15 Km to sea in the area however, it is something shooters should be aware of.

I would be very careful shooting some types of 308 projectiles on the open prairies. I would bet they could ricochet for 4 or 5 Km.

One for the In hole and one for the Out hole.

I have shot out to 1319 yards with 155 palma's and they splat that steel very well. There is a little pock mark but not a lot. It will however go through one side of a medium weight chain link, at that range, and make the plate swing nicely. Trust me I would not believe this one if I had not seen it with my two eyes.

I can only shoot out to 1350 yards only for the reason that I run out of adjustment in the scope I am using. This is even with a 20 minute rail. I read in Precision Shooting at 1000 yards, there was a gent that shot out to 3125 yards with his 308 ackly. I think it was that exact yardage but I know for sure it was over 3000. The article was also in Tactical Shooter I think. So many books all in one head equals a little mushing. All I can say is if you have the adjustment and knowledge, give it a try. I would.
