I'm looking for a giant fireball out of my 9mm and 45 handguns, just for the heck o' it. My logic indicates a maximum charge (worked up) of a slow powder with a light bullet would be the way to go.

I tried some Hodgdon Longshot with some light bullets and there was more flash that Universal, but not as much as I was looking for. I want a six foot flame that burns into my retinas. Anyone have some powder/bullet suggestions or pet loads I can try out?

Much obliged.

Spray some WD40 down your barrel right before you pull the trigger

Or gas - you should try gas lol

Buy a 357 or 44 mag and load them up with maximum charges of H110. 9mm and 45 ACP don't generate muzzle flash like magnums do, which it sounds like you are looking for.

The best muzzle flash I ever had was with some Chinese .223 out of a Mini 14.
At dusk, it looked like a huge flaming basketball hanging on my muzzle.
Apparently, most modern powders have chemicals to suppress the flash, but the Chinese powder did not.
