What's the maximum bullet weight you can use and still use the magazine? I have a match grade build on my mind, but don't want to single feed.

There are too many variables to have a definitive answer to your question. Who makes the barrel? Is the throat bored out? Who makes the magazine? How long is it? What caliber? What shape of bullets are you planning to shoot? I'm sure there are some more variables I haven't thought of.

IF you are building a "match type" AR the choices are

Sierra HPBT Matchking ( SMK )

69 Gr
77 Gr ( the projectile used in the MK262 )

The 80 and 90 Gr SMKs require a COL that will not fit in the magazine..plus the 90Gr requires a super tight 6.5 twist min

The ONLY common projectile that will not fit in the mag is the Hornady A-Max 75Gr

As Kevin alluded to , its the shape not the weight. The 77 SMK has no problem. The A-Max is freaky long since there is a polymer tip

I shoot lots of those since all my bench type ARs seem to love them

Now for some 75Gr A-Max ####...these things are the ###iest 22 cal projectiles around

I have loaded some 77 grn Sierra HPBT at max load according to the Sierra manual in my AR and it shoots well. You can only seat the bullets so long if you want to use the mags. Then again what is the point of a AR if you are single feeding it.

the 75gr Amax will fit in the mag - look goofy but work and feed no problem.

At least this was in an HK SL8 and Tavor.

Shot great out of the HK to 1000yds.

Benchmark is the powder and it is pretty close to compress so set back is not really an issue.

If you think the 75's are ###y, open a box of 80gr Amax or Berger VLD's or better yet,

Berger 90gr VLD's.

As indicated, if you are looking to load them to a max. OAL of 2.260", there are 77 gr. match bullets produced by Sierra, Berger and Nosler (not sure of any others) then the Hornady 75 hpbt too could be lumped into that class.

The most consistant of the bunch (and expensive) are the Bergers, but all are decent bullets.

Care to post a picture of your loaded 75 amax at mag length?
