Here are the key details regarding the Winchester 1876 in the context of the APP and its predecessor: Alberta Provincial Police Marking: Records indicate that a specific batch of 710 Winchester 1876 carbines was sold to the Alberta Provincial Police in 1910. These rifles are highly sought after by collectors, often identified by an "APP" stamping on the stock or behind the lower tang. NWMP Origins: The Alberta Provincial Police acquired these rifles following their service with the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP), who used the Model 1876 as their standard carbine from 1878 to 1914.Specifications: These carbines were chambered in .45-75 WCF (Winchester Center Fire) and were generally equipped with a 22-inch round barrel, a full-length magazine, and a saddle ring on the receiver. Appearance and Features: They are commonly found with "N.W.M.P." stamped on the buttstock, though these are often lightly struck and faded. The carbines often show signs of heavy use, including a light brown patina on the metal and minor dings on the wood.
