Am I legally allowed to shorten the barrel of my shotgun myself? 18.5" is the length that gets tossed around a lot, I'm assuming that's as short as I can go? I've got a couple of older guns I'm thinking of shortening ever since I borrowed a friends 870 defender to do some skeet shooting, we hit just as many as we did with my full length guns. I've never seen any parts available for either a Stevens 820B or a Stevens 70, so it looks like I'll have to do the fab work myself. Any one know if mag extensions from any thing else might fit these guns? Thanks for your help!

That's a great question! I've wanted to buy a Mosin for awhile now (and a .50 actually), just to do that.

Good to know it would have been legal ;)

We were shooting in my driveway, launching clays into the backyard, and the shots aren't too far. Had a blast. I've got a freebie bolt action that's so freakin' long it won't fit in my cabinet, I might practice on that one. Saw a guy use a tube cutter, should cut pretty straight, I've used them to cut driveshafts before and it worked great. Going to need a new front sight or some kind of clamp on break that has a bead on it, anyone know of any?
