Last year, I bought the shorty M305 with the awesome Italian wooden stock, I was so excited as this would be the closest thing I can own and shoot to the FNC1A1. Then, after I purchased the shorty, I started reading posts here on CGN and started to have second thoughts about my purchase. I am not handy, I am not good with fixing things....I can strip and assemble, replace springs, but other than that, I am man enough to admit that I would go to a professional for anything as complex as the M305 now seems to be. Shims, gas problems, indexing, head spacing wrong ammo.....I am now so concerned that I am thinking of listing this rifle on the EE and no, I have not had a chance to shoot it yet.....am I over reacting?
Please help!!
 
Ya your freaking out when no problem has come to light. Go shoot it. If something comes up then address it. Don't worry about not being gun smith, 90% of the people on here are not smiths. I do general work on my firearms and quickly learned what's above my ability, and have gone to a gun smith for various fixes or add ons. Just go enjoy your rifle.
 
its no good itll never work post it up for sale youll be lucky if you can get half price of what you pay maybe but you should be happy with that much it could allways be worse
 
obv shoot the thing.
You may just find it shoots perfectly to your level of expectancy as is.
all those accuracy enhancements are just that enhancements none are really a must have in order to shoot and from what ive seen most are just slight improvements..

Buy some decent surplus and shoot the thing.

As far as shimming ect the hardest part of that is getting the flash hider off safely.

if yer this M305 shy now....... it may never live up to your expectations , kinda like developing a flinch when shooting a hard hitter caliber like the .338 or 45-70 hehehehe
I'd shoot it first but you either like these rifles or not and if it's a not or a maybe...... sell it and buy a bolt gun or a semi auto .308 or higher end M14type with a solid out of the box reputation
 
You could always send it to a good smith and have them check headspace and add some basics to help it run smoother.
 
Have fun shooting your rifle, odds are it will be fine.

Everyone expects to learn a lot at a Hungry Clinic, or Tactical Teacher Clinic. You will, but IMO the most important thing you gain from a clinic is you get committed to tuning your rifle. At home if a pin is giving you trouble, you might quit, but at a clinic, no one can resist the command to "put your purse down and hit it harder!" :)
