MB hunters: no centerfire for upland game

I'm not sure when they changed it, but you can't use centerfire rifles for upland game. My 2000 regs. said you could, but the 2007 says no-no. I'm sure most of you guys knew that, but I never noticed when they changed it.
 
Its been like that for quite a few years now, well at least since 2002 when I started hunting upland birds. Thats why it pays to read the hunters guide each year, you just never know when something may be changed.
 
Heaven forbid that someone would fire a .22 hornet at a grouse's head, or utilize a reduced load from their deer rifle with cast bullets! The horror.....

I thought it said I couldn't kill one with a centerfire....proved 'em wrong. Seriously, I asked CO about this a couple years back and was told problem stemmed from occasional hunters taking shots at sharptails roosted in trees. The bullets were coming down.......way out there.

Another case of changing the rules because of (maybe) a few not being careful. I think it sounds more like a "what if?"
 
I think the intention was to keep guys that had filled their deer tags already from carrying a deer rifle for birds while "helping" buddy fill his deer tag.

Here in NB, once the tag is filled you are not allowed to carry anything larger than a 22cal. 22/250s and .223s are very popular here.

Anyone who would shoot into the tree tops with a full powered centerfire load can't read anyway, so I don't see the point of changing the law. The law also says you cannot be in possession of a rimfire rifle when big game hunting, so looks like you might have some explaining to do if you have a grouse or a ptarmigan in the pot at your hunting camp.
