MB Moose Hunting - GHA 34C???

I see there is an archery season for GHA's 34, 34C, and 36. Are there actually any huntable populations of moose in 34C??? It seems too close to Winnipeg to actually have moose. I know lots of people go to the Bissett area, but has anyone actually hunted this GHA for moose?

There are some WMA's there that supposedly sometimes have moose. But I was wondering if it is even worth considering.

I've always wanted to try moose hunting, especially with my bow, but I was surprised to see an area so close to Winnipeg that you can hunt moose in.

What about the Whiteshell? Are there areas that can be accessed in archery season where I could actually have a chance at bagging a moose? Where do you even start looking?

To be honest, I'd almost prefer to travel further, somewhere to get away from other hunters. I've been considering GHA 21A, but I've NEVER been in that area, so I don't know what to expect. Which is OK. I love to get out and explore on foot! I'm the kind of guy who always wants to know what's over the next hill, or "where does this trail lead to?" I always want to keep going and going, and see where I end up.

In any case, it won't be this year I go. I have neither the time nor the equipment for a moose hunt. Soon, though!!!

Apparently there was a moose just off Wilkes Ave. I don't know your chances, but they are showing up in areas they've never been seen before. Something's changing.
 
Wilkes Ave, you say? Hmm...that's fairly close to home! I wonder if they'll allow hunting there? lol

I live out in Headingley, and about 8-10 years ago, for 2 consecutive years, we saw a cow moose running down a road close to home here. Both times were just after we started back in school. That is the only time I have ever seen a live moose before...all of 200 or so yards from my house...in Headingley...I'm surrounded by farm fields...not marsh and forest.

My Uncle lives just this side of the Sask border, not far from the US either. Two years ago we saw half a dozen moose running like a freight train around the fields during deer hunting season. He'd never seen them before, but they are around now. And its quite dry there.

I've spent quite a bit of time hunting moose in 21A north of Riverton. There are moose in there for sure. In some places, lots. But it is nasty country. Solid near inpenetrable bush in places and ugly bogs. It's best to get as far in as possible as there are lots of guys that hunt the area. I see some of the same guys every year.
Don't go alone though. If you drop a moose back in there you're gonna need help.
Lots of bears around too if you plan on camping in the back country and are archery hunting, bring a gun.

If you're set on archery moose, you should put in for the draw for Turtle Mountains next year. The archery season there is during peak rut and it's a great area to hunt. Lots of trails, great terrain for hunting all kinds of different spots. It can be a great hunt. Ticks hit the area hard a few years ago but I think the moose are coming back a bit.

I've been camping in Hecla, and I know the bush there is very thick and heavy, but I did not know if it was the same up in 21A. I've never thought about the Turtle Mountain area, but I'll definitely have to check it out!
