Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue after installing a MCarbo trigger spring. I installed the light 2.5lb spring from the kit. Brought the sks to the range the other day. Loaded up with 5 rounds. First two shots went well and on the third round it emptied the entire magazine. Stripped the rifle down and inspected the internals. No obvious culprits. Loaded up another 5 rounds and this time on the first shot it shot all 5 rounds within a bljnk of an eye. Has anyone else ran into this problem using the light spring in the MCarbo spring set?
Thanks.

I'd look closely at the Sear to see if the contact point is too short (been ground or filed down) or has negative engagement. Is this gun bought from another person or gun shop - it could have been "Modified" incorrectly. My first SKS is '51 Tula in refurb stock&mag. I got the 'early' sear spring from MCarbo (5-6 years ago) when they were only sending out the light spring, and my mag would drop open emptying the mag. *(this could be your prob, too) I emailed them and they sent me the heavier spring No-charge as many people had that prob. Now they send both to all. My second SKS (another '51) had the sear modded and luckily it is still 'bump-safe' and has only 3-4# trigger. It's in Tapco and has the 'light' sear spring. It also has the 'bolt rails' ground off to allow T-mags, but the pins only allow either open-bolt-reload or 4-in-the-mag. I'm not going to grind off the bottom of the bolt to allow 'full-mag- reload. Have you checked on SKSboards .com OR SKS-files .com ? There may be another answer there or if you post your Q there they have Lots of real 'experts' like 'Boris Badinov' who may know exactly what's wrong.
Best wishes and good luck .

Thanks for the detailed response. Yes my mag was opening up as well as the spring also keeps pressure on the latch to keep the magazine bottom closed shut. The kit I had purchased came with both springs so I installed the light spring and gave the heavier spring to a friend who has an sks as well. Felt pretty bad asking for the heavier spring back. The trigger hasn't been altered so I'm hoping the heavier spring will eliminate the full auto bursts. Thanks again for the info. Much appreciated.

I have the exact kit and experience the same thing with the 2.5lbs spring installed and had to change it to the 3.5lbs one. The issue is that the sear spring is also the mag release spring so, under recoil, the spring isn't strong enough to prevent the mag release from moving thus dumping the mag. That's my best guess at very least.

Yes, the "Medium" spring that came from MCarbo kept the mag closed and still was lighter than the OEM. Another easy thing to do to ease trigger pull is to 'lightly' polish the rail that the sear runs on in the t-assy, and the lower edge of the sear. There's info on doing this on some forum, forget where.
Then, very lightly lube those rails - I use a tiny dab (match head sized) of synth grease, like with a toothpick. And I put a small self-adhesive felt pad behind the trigger to reduce 'over-travel'. If you're using irons sights, I painted the front shroud and pin with white and the rear with Yellow hi-liter on white paint. Makes them both really stand out.

I swapped out the original rear sight for a peep tech sight. Not sure if I will keep it on or switch back to original. The peep sight on my M1 is so much better. For me i think the peep sight on the sks is too close to the eye so the peep is blurry. Doesn't give a great sight picture like my M1 has.
I haven't polished up the sear yet. I was planning on doing the one on my mosin tomorrow actually so I'll probably do both the sks and mosin at the same time. I'm new to military surplus rifles and so far am really enjoying the history and manufacturing of these older era guns. Haven't had the target rifles out for a while.
Thanks for the info.

Scianna54 - Is what a problem ? The light weight spring is, that's why MCarbo sends 2 now as a 'kit'. A few years ago they just sent the really light one and the mags dropped open. They sent me a "medium" spring when I emailed them about the prob. No charge and return not needed. Really good CS from MCarbo.
