I considered it, but the reason I want the SLR is to be able to swap uppers for different purposes. The WK180 looks like an awesome product, but I am specifically after something modular and as AR15 like as possible. I will stay the SLR course, despite being VERY tempted

WK180 is what I'm going for.

Not going to be price gouged for two pieces of milled aluminium. But I see why theyre useful for someone who really wants to customize a rifle to their liking.

Not me. I will probably get a WK 180 at one point, but I'm really looking forward to the Macabee as other than a few trigger packs it seems to completely accept all AR15 components.

I also am looking forward to building a 6.5 Grendel, not a .223 as I have other .223 rifles both restricted and non restricted. When I look at a rifle built on the Mac recievers they basically look like AR15's with a modified magazine well, and that's what I'm after. I intend to use this rifle for deer, bear, wolf and coyote hunting, and the 6.5 is more versatile than the .223 in that respect.

Depends how you want to build your slr. If you want a economical 223 lead hose, it would be tempting. If you're looking for a NR DMR, A1/A2 clone, non restricted 3 gun rifle or to swap uppers etc I don't think it makes sense

For 1k I'd say buy em both

I preordered the Maccabee. I like the fact it is as close to an AR as we will likely see. The one at CSC thoroughly confused me on inspection until a sales person came over and explained what it was. Having shot 180 and not enjoyed them quite as much - to me it makes sense to buy the SLR. Having said that I also ordered a WK180. As per wolverines design it sounds like an economical lead hose that is basically better than a mini 14 in every way possible. At $1500 or $2000 I wouldn’t have ordered - but costing 1060 to my door I couldn’t say no. While the SLR is reasonable economical for those of us with parts lying around and willingness to shop (mines complete at a hair over $1500, brownells, TNA, and Canam barrel) I still probably won’t sling it over my shoulder and rip down a trail on the ATV like I will with the WK.

I'm sticking with my SLR preorder for now... but like other said, i was SEVERELY tempted by the 180...

I could day trade som crypto $, and when I've made 1300$ CAD, then buy the 180 and have a 'free' rifle :)

No comparison in my mind. The SLR receiver set is a superior aluminum alloy (7075 vs 6061), it's as close to a true NR AR as we're going to be allowed to get I think, and the parts I'm putting on it trump the parts on the 180 all day long. It's going to cost me 2.5x as much, but the goal was a quality gun. I also wan to run a low mass BCG/buffer and adjustable gas block, and I couldn't do any of that with the 180.

That being said, I don't think there's been a better .223/5.56 option for the price point to date. It's going to be competing with Norincos, Kel Tecs, etc. Already seems miles ahead there. Time will tell when it comes to fit/function/accuracy, but I'm not knocking the 180 at all. Just not what I was after. I recommended it to a buddy that was after a reasonably priced .223 semi.

I haven't ordered either. I'm letting you guys beta test for a year or 2. I'll just stick with my Mini 14 until you guys have all the bugs worked out and have some long term durability data in the books. :)

I’ve spec’d out a build for an SLR/ATRS received set and figure that I can do it for ~1600 all in. Canam barrel, brownells BCG and LPK w/ stock, the rest of the odds and sods from TNA.
It won’t be a top shelf rifle but it will get me back into the AR scene.

I sold my last AR because I hated that I couldn’t hunt with it.

:agree:

I already have an SL-8, so I'm going to wait until these new NR rifles have been tested before I jump on them. I'd rather pay a bit more even if prices go up. May jump on an 81 now that they've been out a while and grab the second run.

I have the SLR pre-ordered. Ill grab a 180 later, but it will stay mostly stock. The 180 will stay a 5.56 and just some ergo changes. The SLR though will end up being the hunting rifle. 450 Bushmaster.

Yep. Beat ya too it. Blackfriday (monday) got lucky and got a DPMS BCG and LPK for 99usd + 14usd shipping.

I think that the SLR is more oriented towards performance and/competition shooting. It seems to me that the 180 is an NR. 223 sks. It'll chew through surplus ammo and etc. Whereas the SLR can shoot 3gun, though a 20"barrel is a bit long, or be turned into a prs gas gun rig in 22 valk et al. Not that you can't shoot the 180 in 3 gun, but it seems that way more performance parts are available for the SLR.

Not to mention, the debate between piston and di would probably be a factor here.

I could be wrong though. Post up if I am!

To compare these two rifles is a little, well let's just say it'sLaugh2

They are two totally different products that fill two totally different markets. To try and say that 1 will take away from the other is once again Laugh2

I pre-ordered the WK180-C but would never even think about canceling my MacDef order because of it.

I see the WK180-C as filling the role of "cheap POS budget utility rifle" and serving no other purpose than to throw it in the truck or tractor cab and not give a crap how much it gets banged around. As long as it's reliable and goes bang when I need it too then it has served it's purpose. It's a low budget, no frills, no need to worry when you beat it up and bang it around rifle. Affordable= no worries and no worries= more fun. And I think that is why it will appeal to a lot of people.

The Maccabee SLR on the other hand, well, the sky's the limit as to what it can become for you. I think the reasons why it is in a totally different product category than the other rifle are pretty self explanatory. I would think it's safe to say that very few people are going to cancel this because of the new budget blaster.

I hope both turn out to be good products but I can't see either of them as being much competition for the other. Each of them fill a different gap in our market.

The price is nowhere near the gouging arena you proclaim. A billet receiver set from Noveske will cost you around $850. Quality products cost real dollars.

I'm down for an ATRS Modern Sporter receiver set. I'll be getting WK180 when they release calibers I want.

HAHAHA, not even in the testing phase, no submission for FRT and no timeline on production. You'll be waiting a long time for an ATRS rifle.

Well said!

There's nothing to beta test on the SLR, it's in production, there are more than a handful of built rifles that see regular use(CSC has one on the rental rack). The Wk180c has been demonstrated with over 100 rounds without a stoppage(not a lot but it's proof it works). It's based largely on the 180B which was a decently reliable rifle in itself. Unlike the type 81 gong show where no one had handled one let alone shot one.

Again, nothing to beta test with the SLR and the Wk180c looks solid as well. You're concerned about teething issues and you say you might buy a type 81?!!?!?!?!?! Give your head a shake, they're garbage..

Keeping MacDef, maybe 180 later. RDB before 180, maybe 102 upper first too. If the 180 comes in something like 6.8 or x39... but then there’s the ATRS receivers... it’s all very confusing. Then what if the MDR gets approval? Or the brownells rifles?
