Mcmillan Hunter's edge. Your thoughts?

+1 on the Wildcat Composite stocks from Stewart. I've whipped up two of them and both were great to work with even though I fitted them to a different rifle than intended.

This has been done a lot on this board. CGN consensus is that Wildcat makes a significantly superior product, but has less options as far as models and profiles. So if Wildcat makes one that works for you, get it. If not get the McEdge.

Maybe... but correct me if I'm wrong. Wildcats are significantly lighter (3-7 oz depending on what sort of apples and oranges you're comparing). Fill, stiffness and reliability tend to be a bit debatable but I've certainly seen more issues with McEdges on this board that Wildcats. No pissing contest and CGN might not be a huge sample size. Plus one is Made in Alberta.

Significant enough for me.

How many more McMillans are sold than Wildcats? 100 to 1? 200 to 1?

Yeah except wildcat is a 1 man show in his shop in canada and McMillan is American made and has/had defense contracts.

He was referencing the "more issues with McMillans" comment. Obviously there would be more with 200 to 1 sales...

At least.

On this board there is a good sampling of each, and I've only ever heard issues with the one brand. Many undoubtedly have Edges that are just fine (myself included), this isn't some scientific analysis. I'm just saying what I have seen as a consensus, on this particular gun forum, on a subject that has been done many times.

I know you like Edges, I know you have owned a lot of them on some nice rifles. I also know you are a lefty with specific requirements. McMillan works for you, wicked. Doesn't mean I'm talking out my ass either.

There is not “a good sampling of each” on this board. It’s quite possible that I’ve owned, myself, more McMillans than the entire sampling of wildcat stocks here. Probably not, but two guys could easily do it.

This discussion is futile, neither of us have hard numbers and we both have our opinions. I doubt what you say is true though. Doublegun has done multiple dozens. I know Bob Galloway has done dozens on dozens and has the same opinion as me. It really doesn't matter though.

The hunters edge is a good stock but as designed it is very compact. The fore end is narrow and short.
For heavy long actions it's not really the ticket imo.
I would prefer to add a few onces by getting another full size stock design and adding edge fill.
For a m70 LA I'm not sure what McMillan stock design is best. The Sako Hunter is too thick in the grip imo.
Has anyone tried the plain Model 70 Hunting?

This is the hunters edge on a M70 LA 270 Winchester. Fits the factory barrel contour well.
