MDI SLR broken trigger guard ear

Well I've done it now... While trying to dislodge the roll pin from my trigger guard, I snapped one of the ears off (I know, I should've been more careful). Now what I'm left with is this :

As this is a MDI SLR lower and not a 99$ anderson lower, I can't really throw it in the trash and get myself a new one..

Is this even fixable? Am I SOL here? Can an experienced gunsmith tig it back in place and refinish it?

Need some advice here, cause right now I feel like ####.
 
You can try to use JB weld, sand and refinish. Or sell it on the cheap and buy a new one. Use a press for your roll pins to better support the parts in the future.

Well I just called MDI, and they are willing to sell me a new lower at a discount... Lesson learned I guess, gotta stop using my mallet for everything.

Wow that's what customer relations are supposed to be all about. Quick, no run around, no bs and they even gave a discount they didn't even have to give you because it wasn't their fault.

Good on them.

Indeed. This is 100% my mistake, and that they would even sell me one is already nice, but the discount is just awesome. Makes me feel a little better about my fudge-up, but still.. No more punching out, gotta get me a press.
 
Out of curiosity, were you just hammering at the roll pin on the bench or did you have the lower supported by a bench block of sorts?

I had the lower supported on a wooden block and was punching it out with a soft mallet, but I must've hit the ear instead of the pin on that last swing, which broke the ear off.
 
If you’re going to keep the lower, pull the roll pin and use JB weld. I snapped a trigger guard ear off a LMT 10 yrs ago and it’s still rock steady. The rifle has been to three courses and countless competitions, without issue.

Cosmetically, there will be a hairline crack, but any rattle can will cover it up, if you can’t stand looking at it.
 
There is a proper press tool for this built by wheeler.
Supports the ears while screw pressing it out with a driver pin.
It is way cheaper than any lower out there.
I picked one up after i started seeing post after post like this.
May save a future head ache.
