MDPL Going down hill

Wait a sec.

You went away for awhile.
You came back and heard that it has gone downhill? So you are complaining about the level of expectation of the shooting group w/o actually shooting with them?

I heard that 1911's suck from a guy who knew a guy..... Guess I'll never shoot a 1911 cause I heard they suck...

Go shoot with the MDPL and THEN decide if it has gone downhill. That like some people who enjoyed our ODPL nights when there was only 3-4 of us shooting on practice nights, but when that number grew to 8+ that meant far less shooting per individual (time constraints). Those aformentioned people didn't like that, so they stopped coming out (Guess it must be going downhill then right?)
I heard ODPL is going downhill...... ;)

Well then y'better get yer official ODPL head gear before they're obsolete!

No worries with ODPL... the org. seems to have maintained its simple goal of hosting a monthly match.. Of course summer brings on other commitments which can interfere... No big deal.

ODPL's intention was never to become some huge org.
It serves those who wanna participate.

I called FN Sports on Monday and I had the replacement part (trigger bar spring) by Wednesday. A huge thank you to FN Sports!! Got me back in action in time for the IPSC Provincials last weekend.

I know FN Sports gets trashed on here but they're nearly gold in my books (now if they'd just drop the HK pricing by about 35%...)

:dancingbanana:

Hey there's a first time for everything.....!

Yup... Too many people in a pile. They guys on the top either get dragged down or they push those climbers to the bottom :)

Well Well,

When one of the big guys says it's going downhill it must be! because he can out shoot most people on the range. I just wanted to know what everybody else had to say. I really don't have time to play will clowns and donkeys not to say that I'm good shot.

OK Since I'm not from Winnipeg, please define clowns and donkeys?
It's a game, if you are not having fun then why exactly are you shooting? You don't need to be good, just safe. Have you asked the "big guy" what exactly is the reason(s) that the MDPL is going downhill?
  • Too much heckling from the sidelines?
  • CoF's too simple? (aka not a challenge)
  • Too many newbies to watch?
  • Unsafe?
  • Too much socializing vs. shooting?
  • Too repetitive (CoF's)?
Here at our club we have weekly ODPL sessions (Like most action shooting groups). Two weeks in a month are single technique drills (Shooting on the move, accuracy, use of cover, etc....) The other two are multiple technique drills (Mini-CoF's). We usually have a core group that will attend every week and those who only come for the mini-CoF's. Why?

When you participate/shoot in competitions specifically to win, you take most of the fun out of it (IMHO). If you berate yourself for an error or "not-perfect" string of fire. Then what fun are you having?
"That miss cost me the match" doesn't sound like having fun. Heck, Most of the time here, we end up competing for the fewest hits on No-Shoots.

"I really don't have time to play will clowns and donkeys not to say that I'm good shot."

Not sure what is more offensive, the above or an ugly woman showing up at a home coming ball with soiled shorts!

Sounds to me like the guys and gals at the MDPL are a great bunch of folks and are shooting the sport for exactly the right reasons. Your comment suggest that unless you are a "Good Shot" you are a donkey or a clown. Not sure exactly what defines a "Good Shot" but if a "Good Shot" is someone who is shooting the best he/she can and having fun doing it, then the folks at the MDPL are all good shots.

Don't be surprised if the reception you get when you return to the club is somewhat cool, though I suspect the group will be forgiving. That is the kind of folks they appear to be.

Take Care

Well if you expect everyone to be at a same competitive level then you will be disappointed. We have a variety of different shooters with different skill (speed) levels. Some are more competitive and some are more casual. If casual shooters (out to have fun) were not welcome then I would not be there. As long as all the participants take safety seriously I couldn't care less is we have a three to one spread between the fastest and slowest times. If you are only interested in shooting with competitive shooters then MDPL may not be for you. I find MDPL to be a more inclusive group.

Good point Rudy H
Lets just call it the Manitoba Pistol League then!
"The First goal is having Fun"

Have a happy

I think ther has to be a Kernal of ego at play here. As others have said shooters come to the line with different skill sets and objectives. IDPA has five levels of competance for a reason, so everyone can be competitive at their level. I have yet to hear of a Master shooter complain that a Novice shooter is in his squad. Both have fun, just at different levels of shooting ability. Not sure how the MDPL differentiates their competitions but it sounds like they are comfortable with the competitive nature of the club and everyone is having fun safely.

Going down hill? Sounds to me like they have already climbed the mountain and are enjoying the view.

Enough Said.

I hate feeding Trolls....but just in case someone happens to be searching on MDPL trying to find out something useful they deserve to read about some real experiences.

For my part I recently participated in the MDPL 3-gun event in August and had a great time! There were a good number of shooters with a wide variety of skill levels represented. The folks running the show put on a great event and I thank them for their efforts.
