Can anyone confirm if a MDT AICS magazine will fit and work in a Tikka T3X TAC A1?
This video shows it working, but I'm not convinced.
Anyone have experience with this?
Modifications required?
Thanks.

Yes it works. Just tested it tonight.

Tikka tac A1 in 308.

MDT AICS mags. Polymer with metal lips version. I don’t have the all polymer ones.

Magazine inserted. A bit tight but not ridiculous. I had 3 rounds loaded in the mag180 grain Remington. . Fed, chambered and cycled without issue. Does not drop free. A bit of a hassle actually pulling the mag free. Not slick but also not a deal breaker.

The full metal MDT mag ( 10 or 12 round) doesn’t insert. It’s a no go.

I also tried the polymer/metal lipped MDT mag in a Sako Trg22 it inserts and locks in. But the round is too low for the bolt to feed it. Just goes over top. So it’s a no go. Maybe the all polymer ones will work?

Side note: TRG mags are the same as The CRT/Tac mags only with different base plates. The TRG mag works in the Tikka but the Tikka version won’t work in the TRG.

Thanks for the heads up. Fun checking it out.

Quick update. I usually buy MDT mags during their Black Friday sale. I just received the ones I ordered for this sale. The recent metal 12 round AICS mags I just received are different than the previous ones. If your MDT mag has the 3 indented lines on the sides then it won’t fit in the tac A1. The newer ones with the 5 indented lines on the sides, do fit.

Couple of caveats here. First trying to remove them is a pain. They don’t drop free and you have to move it around while pulling down and hitting the mag release. Also I didn’t confirm if they would feed, cycle and eject a round in the Tikka tac A1. So that’s still an unknown.

Interestingly enough the polymer mags with the metal feed lips are the same design as the one I previously tested. So no change there and those worked. Although the mag rekease was also not very smooth.
