Hey guys,
Looking at the MDT muzzle brake for .308. The price is right and Canadian made.
The only downside I've read is about how it directs a lot of concussive force back toward the shooters face.
This is a concern for me because I've had 3 major concussions and need to avoid concussive force where I can, but also do something to save my shoulder.
Open to any alternatives, and please let me know where to get them.

I'm also looking at getting the Ruger American Gen2 which comes with a radial brake, which I understand isn't as effective in reducing recoil, but also sends the force and gasses at a 90deg angle from the muzzle rather than rearward.
I think I would get it in 6.5 creedmoor for lesser recoil than the .308.
I'm realistically not going to be hunting big game anytime soon.

I agree about the mdt brake. There was a guy shooting with one at the range the other day and it was knocking the insulation off the ceiling. It was pretty obnoxious.

I have several apa brakes and they’re all really good, but like others they’ll blow stuff off the table. Apparently they’re making a softer sounding brake if you want to investigate. I haven’t tried one, but they’re worth looking at.

A team Canada shooter for PRS put together this video. There's also an Excel sheet linked in the video.

At the very least it's trying to systematically quantify muzzle brake variables. I think this is a much better way of informing your decision.

You could also shoot something like 223 with no brake. As long as the rifle you’re looking at has a decent length barrel and an 8” twist(or faster) you’ll be able to shoot 1000 yards. You’ll just need to shoot heavier bullets in the 75-80 grain range.

I have the MDT E. in .308, I have the top ports almost all the way closed no face blasting here.

Definitely seriously concussive in all other directions around the rifle haha. I was punished letting a friend shoot it, but they said it was the softest recoiling .308 they ever felt. Pros and cons.

I agree with AfroCowboy. Shooting it you will be fine. But if you are standing even a foot to the side of someone else shooting it, it is LOUD.

I have the MDT on a few different rifles and have never felt the blast as a shooter behind them.
