MDT Field Stock vs Oryx

I am looking to upgrade the factory stock on a Tikka Varmint. After doing a little reading it seems these are a couple of options in my price range. My questions for you folks are:

1) Does the Field Stock make a significant difference from the factory stock ?
2) Does the Oryx improve potential accuracy more than the Field Stock?
3) Any negatives on either ?
4) Any other similar options out there in the same price range ?

Note: The rifle will be for long range plinking and not hunting.

Im not familiar with the Hunter, but just purchased an Oryx before Christmas. I absaloutley love it. It improved accuracy from approx 3/4moa down to .3moa. The only thing to be aware of is forend m-lok slots on the sides. I purchased the M-Lok side covers with M-Lok slots, but beware they are only in the plastic cover, there's no chassis support on the backside. Im not sure how much they would hold. And the other one is it doesn't have much for a good thumb rest. Not sure if there's some aftermarket options for that. Otherwise I love it for a mix of hunting and target shooting.

I have little experience with both, but I'm really enjoying my Magpul Hunter. Turns out I prefer the "pistol grip" on that and my MDT XRS for precision shooting.

X2 on the lack of thumb shelf. It's not exclusively to the oryx chassis thought. I ended up machining my own.

Following. I was looking at this, but I also included the XRS.

Looking at the MDT line, MOST of the chassis have a pistol grip. Take that as you will. I'm guessing that the pistol grip is a bit easier for positional shooting? I was thinking of putting the OYRX or XRS on my t1x and t3x. I was considering the Field for cost savings but the cheek piece seems to be of notably weaker construction and material when visibly looking at it.

If you don't mind some extra weight (on a bench or firing line shouldn't be an issue) I would assume the ORYX would be the choice to go to. The extra weight would help with recoil and follow up. Mind you the ORYX does NOT have MLOK on the for end sides it also does not come with hand adjustable knobs. They need to be purchased. For about 10 bucks for the knobs and 50 for MLOK side panels. Still coming in under 100 bucks less then the XRS but that much more over a Field.

I have the Oryx for a rimfire build. No complaints other than the mlok side panels are not reinforced as mentioned. Just plastic. And it's not as "attractive" as some other options but thats just opinion. Price was right during the black Friday sale and its solid and stable. I would definitely look at the XRS chassis though.

I have the XRS on my T3X CTR and the field stock on my T1X. Both are a significant upgrade over the factory stocks. The Field Stocks are probably the best budget stock upgrade on the market. It will add a little weight over the factory stock, but if you are shooting of a bench or prone that might be a benefit.

I think you will be satisfied with any MDT stock or chassis. Do note that you will have to run AICS mags after making th switch.

Is the field stock much more rigid? How is the cheek riser? Any slop? Do you know what the total height adjustment is for the cheek riser on the field ?

I had both the Oryx and the Field stock

1) Makes a huge difference to me with a more vertical pistol grip and allowed for the barrel to free float a lot more
2) I don't know about accuracy improvement but I think its more of a subjective preference on how it feels
3) Aside from not being able to alter the chassis too much, its a pretty solid entry level chassis that doesn't break the bank
4) MDT is a great Canadian company, can't go wrong as you will notice a lot of us are running some type of MDT chassis

The field stock is way more rigid than the factory stock, cheek riser is adequate, seems to be solid once set, no slop. I can't get you a height at the moment as I'm recovering from shoulder surgery. MDT has awesome customer service, send them an email with questions and they'll get back to you.
 
I have both.
I really like the oryx. Very solid, no flex. 1 lbs heavier than the field.

I like the field too but the forehand have some flex. You can torque it while shooting from a bipod. There's plenty of gap in the barrel channel so, no chance of touching the barrel.
For hunting, I would take the field, for target shooting, oryx is better.
