MDT HS3 build.

Took her out to stretch her legs today (Sat). Shot out to 1k. Really poor conditions today. Swirling winds down range and heavy head winds at the shooting position. The rifle performed admirally considering the weather. Very consistant hits at 500 to 700 metres. I guess I'll have to wait for better weather to really evaluate performance beyond that. The 168gr A-Max couldn't match the 178gr HPBT today.

Oh well, even a poor day at the range is better than no day at the range.

so happy with Jerry and his products, I today received my MDT HS3 for my Savage.....can't wait to go to the range :)

6MT I'm interested in this chassis, how are the side panels? They are made of plastic (polymer)?

Yeah, they're polymer.
It's nice that mdt caters to the tikka long actions like my 6.5x55.
Lighter than expected, the forearm is made out of hollow rectangular aluminum stock, and affixed to a machined rear v block/ trigger guard/ buffer tube mount.
I think a version that had a stock adapter like the Lss might have been nice, provides a better trigger position. The trigger position on my xlr chassis is better than the hs3 due to the hs3 having the grip mounted lower.
A machined in qd socket on the forearm would be nice, the accessory side rails that provide a qd socket are kind of bulky to just get a sling attachment point.
The 300 win mag magazines (with readjusted feed lips) are a bit finicky, not sure I'd want to rely on them under stress. Perhaps more time fiddling with the feed lips will improve function.
Overall hs3 gets a 7 out of 10, decent, but there's room for improvement. I'd take an xlr or krg all day every day if they accommodated the tikka long action calibers.

Well Steve finished up another fantastic EMP Rifles build!

My 6x47 Lapua is complete. Rich at Spartan Precision did a great job on the acid etching and the cerakote and Steve got er all put together at the Poker Rally.
No fancy pictures yet like 6MT, but I will get some pics of the groups up once I get to shoot it.

Took the MDT build out to shoot some tannerite and some groups today. A couple of 1/4lb jars went boom at 304 yards. And, I did manage a couple of decent groups out to 304 yards. Here's the best two 5 shot groupings.

The best was just under 1/2moa and the other would have been great, if it wasn't for the flyer (my fault). So the two were averaged at 1/2moa at 304 yards with the new build. I'm still getting comfortable with the chassis and need to tweak the LOP and cheek weld a wee bit. But for the most part, it is shooting very well. Ammo was Nosler match 168gr HPBT; which the rifle seems to really like. Don't bother to chime in reloaders, cause that aint happening. I shoot around a thousand rounds a month. I don't have the time and besides, I'm not competing at my stage in life. I'm in it for the fun.

Here's a picture at a different range. This is where I took her out to 700m. Really windy conditions that day hampered my efforts to get it out to a kilometre. But, there's always next time.

So, have fun and keep shooting!!

i was going to get the HS3 but Saskatoon gun works recommended the LSSXL instead and i think it was a great choice it didnt add to much weight (i will be using this rifle for hunting this year). my only mistake was not ordering the extened recoil pad the .338LM kicks a little hard without it

I have the V2 of the MDT stock,, it needs to be removed in order to get the bolt out.
Not a problem with the V3 apparently.
Also, the MDT stock has a bit of a wobble as it rotates a bit around the attachment point.
No wobble with the Magpul.

Had a couple with the wobble, we have machined a few new "nubs" with a tighter fit for the Skeleton Stock. I have the V2 on my short action and trimmed the cheek piece a bit and can get the bolt out. If you call MDT about the wobble, Gino will send out a slightly larger nub that allows the stock to be tightened down to get rid of the wobble.

I have one of the wobbley skeleton stocks. I got the oversized "nub" from MDT. I haven't installed it yet though. I used a piece of friction tape to "shim" the original "nub" to tighten it up. I eventually will get around to replacing the it with the new one though.

I do not have extensive time behind either. But I prefer the MDT to the magpul one. I MIGHT consider the magpul after installing the MDT recoil pad, I was not a fan of the magpul stock at all on the cadex chassis gun I was shooting.

For the PRS is there a difference between the ar15 and ar10 models for fitting on the hs3?
There should not be. The only dif between the two is the cheek piece on the ar10 version is shortened a bit at the front to allow the longer ar10 bolt to be cocked.
Both have the same attachment specs so they should fit any ar15 or ar10 lower.

Thanks for the quick response! Im getting ready to start my HS3 build and have many questions.

I'll post pics as I get things in. I'm thinking all black for now and maybe a set of OD green skins and grip.

My Remington 700 sps varmint action and barrel would be going into it.
