MDT mag problems

I just got 2 new mdt polymer 10 round .223 mags and I'm having trouble with both. When clambering a round with multiple rounds in the mag the round below the one being chambered gets the projectile pushed downward kicking up the base of the round which then catches on the bolt. I then have to pull the bolt back a bit to get the round in the mag to flatten out again.

I have an RPR in 223 and run 80 grain SMKs with an OAL of about 2.5 inches. The load works fine with the plastic Ruger mags, but with MDT mags somehow one round gets pushed into a vertical position at the front of the mag and it balls everything up.

My short term fix is to order more Ruger mags, but I have at least 3 MDT mags with this affliction.

The problem is in the MDT mag design, so sending them back is not really an option if they replace them with new mags with the same problem.

I haven't tried running SAMMI spec rounds to see if they feed reliably... on the other hand... why would I? I mean the coolest thing about these mags is that they allow hand loaders to increase case capacity by running an extended overall length... right? Instead of old school single shot only with such a load.

Got new mags... no help. Still trying to figure something out with mdt. May have to try another brand if magazine. Any suggestions that would be around the same price?

I have a 223 polymer mag with the same issue. Only seems to happen to if there are 3 rounds in the mag, though. Fully loaded works fine, but always seems to happen once you get down to 3 left.

Mine will do it with any amount over 1 round. With anything over 3 it will sometimes push them all down so much on the front that they all get stock completely vertical and jam the follower down

I was running my LSS on Monday with their .223 mags. I had noticed they fit a bit loose in the LSS before heading to the range. I didn't think much about it. Tried running it at home with the 1 snap cap I have with no problems.

Previously I had been using the .223 mags in an HS stock that I'd installed a Magpul dbm kit into. This setup ran flawlessly and the mags were nice and snug.

Once I loaded 10 rds into the mag at the range, the loose lss magwell caused either a jam or a failure to strip a round from the mag. Once I realized what was happening and began applying slight upward pressure on the front of the mag while cycling the bolt I had no more problems. Still a pain in the butt.

I contacted MDT and had a reply first thing the next day. They were excellent quick to deal with. They offered to send me a set of different mag latches to hopefully hold the mag in the proper position.

I don't know if this is the same problem, but so far MDT have been wonderful. Especially since I even told them the chassis was a second hand purchase.

MDT is an exemplary business. Knowing some of the staff personally I know they will make sure their product is not the problem should you have any concerns.

I am proud they are a Canadian company, as they are going to be on the world stage before we know it.

Did this ever get sorted out? I have an MDT chassis and mags ready for installation on a rifle and now you got me somewhat concerned.....

just now seeing this. i did get it sorted out. i purchased a 10ba stealth and noticed a difference in the bolts... the 10ba had a small amount of material removed from the edge on the hole that the pin goes into to hold the bolt head in place to create a small chamfer while the bolt in my .223 just had the sharp edge. so i put that bolt in the .223 just to see if it could properly pick up a round out of the mag and it did perfectly.

took my .223 bolt and a dremel and removed about 1mm of material to chamfer the edge of the hole in the bolt body. it now works perfectly.

i don't know if all the older bolt bodies are like this or maybe mine just had a more aggressive edge that could catch the base of the round but i let MDT know so they know what it was and the fix so they can help anybody in the future who has this problem.

A lot of unnecessary fooling around but its now fixed and cycles perfectly.
