MDT TAC21 Gen 1 and Gen 2 differences

Hello,

Can anyone tell me the difference between a gen 1 and gen 2 chassis. I think I have a Gen 2, picked it up here on the EE. It has a lever on the end cap for quick removal. It also has a steel wedge like serrated part that fits into a slot on the upper chassis above directly above the grip on the left side. I know it goes there but I can't figure out what it is for.

Gen 2 has upgraded butt end cap with a lever that rotates the pin. The pin has a flat spot on for quick disassembly of end cap. The upper receiver has slot cutout for the installation of a serrated steel insert for the detent on the lever to keep it in place. I'm sure many people have the Gen 2 chassis and already knew this but i didn't and i couldn't find it anywhere in the instructions.

your welcome toomanyhobbies. I have not had a chance to install the chassis on my rifle yet. From just looking at it, the quality of the machining looks great to me. It's not the lowest price chassis out there, but it's not the most expensive. I really like the fact that its a local company for me. Good luck with your choice.

nice! im jealous. I just got the Gen 1 and I have to poke out the pin like a pleb. :( .... I wouldn't mind some lever action!...... :cool:
 
I have heard complaints from other individuals that purchased this chassis that when the action and other components are installed the fit is sloppy. Can anyone else confirm this? Honestly the more I look at it, it's spending XCR-M money to make a rifle look just like an XCR-M. Almost seems more practical to buy a rifle that's specifically designed like this.

The lever system works a lot better then the pin................mine locks up very tight and solid with no play at all............

As to the XCR - M comparison, the Tac-21 chassis is $700.00 ..........................If you can find me a XCR for that amount, I will buy two.......maybe three.......... ;)

Add donor rifle, buttstock etc etc required to assemble this chassis on a rifle and you have a rifle closely approaching 2 grand. I think you know what I was getting at. If you go with a cheap donor rifle. Add a shillen barrel or timney trigger and it goes way up fast.
 
Aren't you paying for something specific though? So, depending on what you want your rifle to do, that 2 grand can be spent on a tac 21 set-up or an XCR. I don't see one as "better" than another, but just two different means to two different ends.

... I want both.

It just seems like an expensive route to make a tacticool non restricted rifle. I guess the ability to customize barrels or triggers may give it an advantage over certain non restricted black rifles.

That sounds more like an XCR / swiss arms. I picked up the tac21 because I wanted a modular precision bolt rifle with an AR-type configuration... I also want a tacticool non restricted rifle though, so am going to start hiding some money away for one of these swiss arms PE90's that people keep posting pictures of (pictures which make me OD green with envy)

Have you seen the Troy m14 chassis? I think they make one for the mini-14 too.
