MDT vs KRG

I've got a couple of the KRG Bravo chassis and really like them. Basically they are a cheaper take on the original AI stock, with an aluminum "beam" that bolts to the action and then plastic skins attach to the aluminum beam. The Bravo stock looks much more conventional, which I like.

Looking around I have come across the MDT Field Stock, which also has an aluminum bedding block and plastic furniture. I've just never seen one in person.

Anyone got any thoughts on which to choose? FWIW the MDT stock is about $200 cheaper and that kinda hard to ignore, unless it is really cheapo and not in the same league as the KRG?
 
The Field stock is nice but the MDT equivalent to the Bravo is really the XRS. Having had both a Bravo and an XRS and compared them side by side, I prefer the XRS. It feels more solid than the Bravo (which feels hollow) and although it is a bit heavier than the Bravo, it has a longer forend which you can achieve on the Bravo by adding a spigot, at which point the weight difference disappears.
 
I am not wild on the XRS look and it is more expensive than the KRG Bravo. I quite like my KRG Bravo stocks. Really just considering the MDT Field because it is considerably cheaper than the KRG Bravo.
 
Hang on until black Friday sales, MDT always has good ones.
Field to me is more like the Magpul Hunter with a minimal aluminum bedding block and all plastic forend, XRS is a bit more blocky but full aluminum forend on it.
I have 2 XRS, they are a solid platform for bench shooting, heavy enough, half price on black Friday last couple years anyway.
I'm also one of those #######s that doesn't really hate the Magpul stocks, you can find them on sale with the mag housings for $300ish often enough. They work fine, light enough to drag around the bush too.

I’m not sure about the Field stock but I have the XRS and had a Bravo. I prefer the XRS as I would describe the Bravo as “fat”. I wasn’t a fan of the grip on the Bravo and the barrel channel was excessive IMO.
 
XRS
Longer forend, stiff, I was not sure about the looks when I first got mine, but it quickly grew on me and it’s nice and comfortable. I addd the adjustable vertical recoil pad as well.

I have Tikkas in both an MDT XRS and a KRG Bravo and while I am perfectly happy with the Bravo, for the reasons you mention the XRS just feels better to me.

FWIW I think they look very similar with the XRS getting the slight edge. The barrel channel is quite large on the KRG which harms the appearance in my opinion. Coke vs Pepsi really.
 
I've only had the KRG and still have one on my Tikka T1X, my only gripe would be that the forend is a bit short and if you have a heavy barren you'll need to use weights to balance your rifles. All of the KRG stock I tried were light in the buttstock.
 
I have multiple Bravos and XRS chassis, both have their good and bad.

Bravo good:
The palm swell is ultra comfortable and puts my trigger finger in the perfect position.
Being able to change the rear stock to a flat bottom is perfect for shooting off a rear rest
Cheap, until you buy accessories
Bravo bad:
Short forend makes a spigot purchase mandatory for barrels longer than 20". I've used the regular and long spigots, which do work well and get you much closer to the barrel, but they're not cheap
The forend is deep, so if you run an arca rail your barrel sits a long way above which hurts stability on a narrow bipod
Every accessory is expensive for what it is, and chances are good that you'll probably want to upgrade somenthings

XRS good:
Forend is longer and shallower, way better for shooting off a bipod out of the box
Prettier looking than the Bravo
Feels stiffer, especially in the back end
Being able to switch grips is nice, but neither fit me well
XRS bad:
The mould lines on both of mine were scalpel sharp and needed sanding. I shouldn't need to do that.
Zero palm swell on either grip option. I wish they offered a bit fatter vertical grip as an option, and my hands are only average sized
Not having a flat bottom rear stock makes shooting with my rear rest/Protektor bag finicky (need to run it all the way back near the recoil pad). It's fine for a squeeze bag of course

Out of the 2 I prefer the XRS.
 
If you've big hands, you'll really like the XRS. I personally found the XRS better suited for big dudes than the Bravo, and the Bravo better suited for carrying any distance on your back. Both are quality kit, both have unique strengths... and IMO neither are a bad choice.
 
Any one using the KRG Xray? How would it compare the the Bravo and XRS?

I am considering buying a Tikka CRT and one of these stocks. Mostly for training, hunting some with it and a slight chance of one day trying a NRL match.
 
I prefer my XRS over a KRG and honestly I like my XRS over an ACC or ESS. Granted i'm not a huge traditional "chassis" fan.
But between the 2, the XRS feels higher quality and fits better.

As others have stated MDT always has a rank black friday sale, thats when I do most of my shopping if I need another stock.

I don't want a metal chassis as I may hunt with the one I want to build also. So I'm looking at the KRG and MDT. Sounds like this Black Friday Sale is very good.

Having used all three options (3 Bravo, 3 X-ray, 2 XRS), I really like the x-ray in terms of the added pad height adjustment as well as the easy to handle/carry butt stock. It’s barely heavier than the bravo. My rimfire PRs setup used to be a CZ457 in XRS. My centerfire PRS and NRL Hunter rifles are both in X-rays

how do you find the Fit/Finish and overall stiffness between each model? I don't think I will need to add many weights or stuff to the forend. My build will most likely be a target/training rifle that may come on a few hunts, not PRS. NRL Hunter could be a lot of fun down the road... Hope to build a sub 12pd rifle (ready to shoot) in 6.5 Creedmoor, with a med palma size steel barrel.
 
I don't have any experience with the xrs but I am very happy with the bravo and x-ray. Fit and finish of the krg is excellent in my opinion. Both are very close in weight and for the price difference I would go with the x-ray. Couple of notable differences between the two are.

Bravo has a bigger grip than the x-ray but you can add a weight to the inner part of the grip on the bravo. I have medium sized hands and I have no issues with getting a good position on the trigger or grip. X-ray has a smaller grip but it's comfortable.

The x-ray seems a little less bulky than the bravo, more narrow and sleek...if that makes sense

Bravo has the option to fill the bottom of the butt stock for a flatter surface for rear bags, etc. if you opt not to fill it in it's a nice hook for your hand to get a comfortable position on the butt stock and rear bag. The x-ray butt stock is "notched out" quite a bit but you can fill it in as well. In stock form the rear end of the rifle will ride higher on a bag with the bravo.

There is no actual thumb shelf on the bravo but there is on the x-ray, x-ray I find more comfortable to use.

All weights you can add are the same on both besides the grip weight...I think

Stock cheek riser is longer and bigger on the bravo but the x-ray is adjustable front to rear

Recoil pad is adjustable on the x-ray and is not on the bravo

There are attachment points/ threaded holes above the mag well on the x-ray but not on the bravo.

The bit of a barricade stop there is, is bigger on the x-ray

Both chassis are very rigid and basically have the same options for add on accessories. Hope this info helps you a bit. I would not hesitate to buy a krg knowing what I know now.

Betaprovet has the latest gen xray with the new forend with the side threaded inserts. This forend is also on the latest bravo so you are not missing anything. I personally like how everything is modular so if you want, you can swap the xray butt stock with the bravo and even create custom options like this two tone xray.
