Meaford Long Range Steel Challenge (2-day PRS points race match)

Congratulations to Matthew Brousseau, winner of the 2016 Meaford Long Range Steel Challenge!

Matthew not only won the match and the Insite Arms prize rifle, but also the aggregate for the Desert Tech prize rifle. He immediately took that rifle and gave it to an RO who said he would like to try PRS shooting, but didn't have a rifle. An RO who had impressed Matthew with his enthusiasm and professionalism over the course of the match. We are humbled by both his shooting skills and his generosity.

Nathan Wright, the highest scoring Canadian and 3rd place shooter, gave the Sightron SIII scope Hirsch Precision donated to the prize table to a fellow competitor in need of better optics.

Anyone have pictures of competitors shooting?
Positions, props, technique, shooting aids.....?

There will be many many photos uploaded to the shoots facebook page in the days to come. Lots of video was taken as well. It was a very long 3 days for the shooters and even longer for the staff.
Here is a video of one of the X reload guys shooting the long range stage.
IPSC 1134 M
Bear 1284 M
36" plate 1504 M
90 seconds, 3 rounds per plate, move on whether hit or not.
This was more or less the only straight forward prone stage of the match.

What where the predominant actions and calibers used?

lots of creedmoor and x47 lapua stuff.
6 and 6.5mm
I think the match winner was shooting 6 dasher but I could be mistaken.
I think there was only 1 AR platform there, all bolt guns. Lots of custom actions, but no shortage of remingtons and savages either.

Most common found on the firing line? Remington 700 in a 308win based on what I saw and who I talked to.

One of the biggest take away's for me from this weekend was that sure, better gear helps, but if you handed me a Coyote, Cadex, or custom action with a S&B 5-25 on it, I still wouldn't be in the top 20. Practice, especially off your belly and on the clock, is what will by far make the biggest difference.

Congrats to Kris, Ryan, and all the range staff for a very successful weekend. It was extremely challenging, but a lot of fun!

Big thanks to Kris, Ryan , and all the ROs, helpers for making the first PRS Match in Canada so successful! I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. I will definitely come back next year.

What a great experience. For the very 1st PRS shoot in Canada the organizers a spectacular job. The generosity of the sponsors
was truly amazing...the list is long, and is a who's who of tactical firearm retailers/inovators...Insite, PGW, Cadex, etc, etc.

It was exciting just to walk down the line inspecting the different firearms and scopes on display...there must have been more than
$500,000++ sitting all lined up in a row...a sight to behold.

The stages were VERY humbling to the average shooter...with distances that probably 75% of Canadians have never even attempted before...so I
think Strelok and other ballistic app's became the best guesstimate of the day. Most everyone I know has data out to maybe 600 yards,
and that would barely reach 1/2 of the targets. Stages seemed to flow smoothly, so kudos to the RO's and range staff. Targets and positions
were challenging and certainly different than I had ever shot before.

I think after the glowing reviews of this years inaugural event, next years will draw more people...and maybe even spawn more
events in other cities across Canada.

If I had one suggestion, it would be to cut the distances. It is discouraging firing at such long distance and missing multiple targets
and not being able to see ground splash for correction of following shots. Have most of the shots in the 300-500yard range with a few long distance.
It is definitely more fun to hit targets and let the time determine the winner.

4 stages out of 18 had targets over 700 yards.

We added the extreme distances because we got so many requests for them. We don't regret that. Where else in the province could one even attempt a +1600 yard shot? These lowered the overall scores, but they did so for everyone including the top shooters.

You have a year to shoot, practice, hone your skill and come back for the next year's match.

Hi guys, lots of you are sending us messages. We are winding down the match and are getting lots of them, so don't be offended if we don't reply to them right away. We will reply as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience.
