Meaford Long Range steel Challenge

Can anyone enter? where can I find more info? Ever never shot past 300, never find opportunity!

I jumped in at the deep end two years ago at Meaford. In addition to the above mentioned links, there are a number of books out there and supposedly the Jake Vibbert video series mentioned on precisionrifleblog is very good. I plan to watch them this season and practice.

Don't get hung up on having the latest and greatest kit, because you're going to wind up spending way more than you need to. Most folks at the match will be glad to give you pointers and share kit with you, so don't blow the rent on bags and such.

The biggest drawback to Meaford for me as a new shooter was that there is literally NO feedback on misses. When you're not certain of your dope this really messes with your confidence. If you have access to longer ranges then gathering some information is critical so you know how your load behaves at range. Not sure if they will do the pre-shoot on the Friday AM and PM, but there were a few further targets two years back that you could have used to walk yourself on at longer ranges.

Sign up tonight and see you there!!

Just signed up also - do I need to specify my caliber? I wrote .223 but I'm not quite sure if I'll bring my .308 or my .223.

One thing for sure is I'll be in the "Tactitical" division :^) (small typo on the registration form..)

Great response, thank you. The gear and kit issue is already done. Will be bringing either a 700 5r, Or DT SRS. .308 either way. I was leaning to .338 but for the range/cost difference I don't see the point. Also it looks like its too large of a caliber anyway, if I'm reading right. Ill just make my trigger pulls count at 100 until then, and cross my fingers I can dope through an app. lol.

I just have a really hard time finding distance to shoot It at. Especially since I moved to Ontario/GTA

Ill check out that guy on you tube too!

Just signed up, I had to go tactical. Caliber too big, and rifle too expensive. Im so excited! And nervous.

.338 would have made you very unhappy by the end of day 2 unless you enjoy beating yourself up!

You won't know unless you try and you are on the right path. See you out there.

I’ve shot 100 in a day of .338 before. My muzzle is effective.

It was mentioned there was no feedback on misses. Are we allowed to bring a spotter? If so are there stipulations?

Maximum 30 caliber. Bigger than that is too hard on the closer targets.

You can bring a spotting scope, but it is an individual match. No one can spot for you while you're shooting.

Will this match include shooting through slots, cants, and horizontal positions(rifle sideways laying on the ground) ?

What other types of non typical situations might there be? Suspension? Moving targets? Ive done some of this sort of stuff in the past, but it was not long distance events.

And do we need to take a cold bore into consideration?
