Meaford Long Range steel Challenge

Will this match include shooting through slots, cants, and horizontal positions(rifle sideways laying on the ground) ?

What other types of non typical situations might there be? Suspension? Moving targets? Ive done some of this sort of stuff in the past, but it was not long distance events.

And do we need to take a cold bore into consideration?

There has been a suspended platform in the past as have slots, which may or may not be used again. No urban prone. Moving targets are unlikely as we don't have a mover system, but it one became available to us....

Every shot fired in a PRS match counts for points.

Get out and shoot lots past 100m. Get confident in your positions and rifle/ammo combinations... get,to know your come ups for all ranges especially (just my two cents worth) in 10m increments....your mileage may vary.

Shoot many competitions if you can. Forget chasing the shiny (think rainbows and unicorns). Use what works for you and your game. Seek sources from experts and read books like, lmpact, by Rodney Maze...sponsors like Jerry Teo at Mystic Precision and Peter Dobson at Hirsch Precision carry this resource. Many helpful people on this forum and community...

Cheers, Barney

Finding somewhere long, within couple hours drive of the GTA is whats really holding me back here.

All of your guys advice has been invaluable! Thank you so much

Join the Ontario Rifle Association and start shooting Precision Rifle matches at CFB Borden. A lot of the PR guys also shoot PRS, so it's a great place to learn.

Also, if you have the opportunity I highly recommend you take a clinic with Tactical Teacher to get started.

I see some at 'fox field' where is that?

When applying for ORA, who are the references? Anyone? Or current members?

Fox field is a range at Borden.

You can shoot the first match as a guest without having to join the ORA. That may be a good opportunity to meet people.

If you are not ready to shoot, email the match director and ask if it's OK for you to come out as a spectator.

May 13 PR match just got cancelled. Apparently we got bumped by a reserve unit. It's their sandbox, so their rules.

How does one take advantage of showing as a guest then?

Thats unfortunate about the bump.

Meaford is not a venue that really lends itself to spectators. Due to the nature of the range, everyone attending must be on the invite list. The number of people that can attend is limited. This includes all competitors, staff and sponsors. Those all need to be accounted for before any spectators will be considered. This means that we cannot give spectators an answer until the last minute. Also, there is no free movement to and from the range. We go as a group in the morning and come back when the activities for the day are complete. So, any spectator will have to be there first thing in the morning and will have to stay on the range until the group returns in the late afternoon.

Are you going to RO again this year Barney or are you shooting?
SRSA311

I’m gonna RO once again. There is a pile of talent shooting and also a bunch of great volunteers running things behind the scenes. Like any event , I like having a hand in things to help ensure / guarantee there will be no shztshows....

And it’s a great celebration of marksmanship excellence. What’s not to like??

Cheers, Barney

Have a look at the OSA schedule - w ww.osacanada.ca. There is a PRS course scheduled for the 14th and 15th of July.
