I've been shooting and loading for rifles for the last 25yrs so my entire set-up is purposed for that. I use a Lee perfect measure and trickle each load to desired weight. Works fine for that.

Recently bought a Blackhawk in 45 Colt and am now loading for that but the Lee deal doesn't seem to work all that well with flake pistol powder. Any suggestions for a decent entry level pistol powder measure. I don't expect of do a lot of production loading for this cartridge so volume is not an issue. Just want something that will measure with more accuracy.

Thanks

How about trying a different powder? HS-6 and CFE pistol both meter well in my LEE perfect powder mesure.

You make it sound like there is a choice to choose on the shelf.....the poor guy probably had to pimp his body out just to get the powder he has!!!

....I would use a lyman 55.....it works very well with Mag 6 and Noble 69

I'm using IMR 700x with 200gr cast. Have some Trailboss and 250s that I will try as well. I was lucky to get those two selections.

Anyone wanna sell me some Unique? :)

I use the Lee auto disk, works really well for flake.

I'll check that out as well as the Lyman suggestion.

The Lee auto disk works great for pistol loading. You can prevent static cling by wiping the disk and hopper with a dryer sheet, I've had to do this in the winter with some flake powders like unique. I also use a homemade baffle in the bottom of the hopper, I just cut mine from a margarine lid.

I don't know if other measures are any better, but I find that 700-X is a pain with my Lyman 55 powder measure. The thin flakes seem to get wedged between the metering cylinder and the body of the measure. Not on every throw, but often enough to be a nuisance. Having said that, I've thrown a lot of 700-X with mine.

After reading that 700x was a real pain to use in a powder measure I was nervous about trying it in my Lee 1000 press.
It worked great , maybe its the upgraded auto disk with the funnel bottom ?

Try a non-flake powder as in the long run frustrations are cut significantly.... 3N37 is currently my go to. And being a Vihtavouri powder I can get it fairly easy as Wholesale always seems to have it. Lotsa guys scared to pay the extra 10 bucks.
Not much in the way of powder, esp pistol powder. Two choices ... take it or leave it.

I'll use the 700x up and look for something else in the meantime.

I use my lee powder measure, bought it, didnt meter well, took the cylinder apart and cleaned up all the edges a bit with a knife and cut the little rubber tab off mine, now even with 800x its spot on.

I have several lbs of unique and you can't have it. :p I hope you enjoy that blackhawk, i had one in 45 colt years ago sold it to fund different gun unfortunatly.
