The auto-disk (with micrometer) works well with flake powder over 4 grains. I was having trouble with 700-X and some guys here told me about the 4gr. rule. No problems since then. If you're using a progressive, just keep it in mind. If you're using a single stage or turret, stick with the Lyman 55, it works always.

I just had to stock up on 800x. Between the higher price and the poor metering it was the only powder with more than a single pound left in any nearby store.
I hope it works well enough in my single stage with an RCBS chargemaster combo for meyering. Im scarred but desperate.

Flake powders do not work in some throwers. If I have to use it, I switch over to an old Lyman 55.
A powder similar in speed to Unique that would work well in your thrower and is a good 44 mag powder is Power Pistol.

I've got just the 9mm for you. Stainless Springfield 1911. Totally anti-fudd.

Another powder measure that I really like for pistol reloading is the RCBS Little Dandy. You can hold it in your hand as you move from one case to another in the loading block, takes about a minute to charge 50 cases
I too have been using a Lyman 55 for years. More than 100 lbs of powder has gone through it over those years including 700x, Unique and Trail Boss. No issues with any of them. Long stick IMR rifle powders including my favourite 4064 can be more of a challenge as some sticks are broke in two causing a "jerky" operation. These charges show up to .5 gr variation. Maybe 1 throw in 8 or 10 are not smooth.
Lots of adjustment in the old Lyman as well. It has 3 separate adjustable slides. I've done everything from 2.0 grs of Bullseye to nearly 50 of 4064.
Good used ones do come up for sale on a regular basis

I have always used an RCBS measure and never had any problems. One thing I did do to make smaller pistol charges easier was to take a spare rotor and piston to a local machine shop. They reduced the diameter of the hole in the rotor by half with a brass sleeve and turned down the head of the piston to match. Much easier to get precise loads.
