Measuring your length

I've read a lot about people using dial calipers on here. Is there any particular reason? I personally use a digital caliper, and have a backup Vernier if and when the batteries quit. My dad has a combo metric and imperial dial caliper, but frankly I don't see much of a difference between dials and scales.

I used to just shave and use a ruler. It makes it seem longer that way.

I don't trust digital calipers for measuring important stuff, have seen one fail before and that's all it took for me.

I got sick of the Cr*ppy Tire one I had apparently turning itself on by itself and running out the batteries. The dial I find is easier to read than the vernier markings.

I am pretty sure you meant metric ruler, the kind that measures millimetres, right. Typos, I hate them...

Lock the slide when you turn them off. That way any movement will not turn them on. Worked for me.

I remember you saying your applying for your 12.6 .

I have both dial and digital calipers I use the digitals with my hornady aol gauge and comparator because you can zero them and the dials for true over all length of the cartridge.

Does the comparator measure at the ogive instead of the tip? I hear this is a better measuring point since that is what contacts the lands first?

Where did you purchase your oal gauge and comparators?

Yes the comparator measures off the ogive of the bullet. I got mine from Andrew Higginson "Higginson powders" in Hawksbury Ontario .i bought the straight gauge six modified cases and the comparator that comes with six inserts.
