Well, drug the misses and kid out of bed at first light and headed for the hills. Sure enough, the trip paid off and put some meat in the freezer.

Shot was from about 100 yards with a Winchester 30.30 (sound familiar, Drache?), clean through the neck. Needless to say the deer fell down, gave a few kicks and bled out wonderfully.

On to the proof! Please note that this is a meat buck, and by no means a trophy...the right antler looks funny as I am attempting to hold it in place as it broke in the deer's fall. Spiker/2-points make such good eatting!

Well done! This is what I like to see! What bullet did you use?

I just got a pre64 last year. Haven't hunted it yet, only have a round nose .30 cal mold. Shoots great, I want to get a good flat nose mold and hunt it soon.

I generally just use the winchester 160 grain bullets. Cheap, and any accuracy issues are minimal at the ranges I use the 30.30 for. Much farther out than this one was and I would have been stalking back to the truck for the 30.06, but at 100 yards a 30.30 is more than sufficient for dropping a mule deer.
