Hi everyone. I'm jumping the gun here, so to speak. I haven't received my pal yet, but I came across a deal on a few old MEC reloaders, and I couldn't resist. One press is an old 650, seller said probably was bought in 1979. It's dirty, but in reasonable condition. I've looked it over, and it's missing one small part; the "operating rod" (Part # 1008055CA). The MEC site sells them for 10 bucks, but then there's tax, shipping, and the USD conversion, for what is basically a threaded rod with a 90 degree bend on one end. So, what I'm asking, is there anyone with one of these machines who can measure this part for me? Length, diameter, etc. I can easily make my own and save the 10-20 it would cost to have one shipped. Pictures of the part on the machine would help too.

And maybe it's a long shot, but if someone was local to southern ontario and has a spare one of these, maybe we could work something out.

Can't wait to be able to use this thing!

Cheers,

Matt

.... Maybe I'm just too cheap, but 9 bucks for a threaded rod seems steep?....

Just wait till you see the bill for an 11 kg. bag of lead shot and a pound of powder !!!!

As you're in Niagara, a trip to Hummason's for reloading components is likely necessary anyway.
Best pick up an extra set of wad guide fingers while you're there ... sooner or later, you'll need them, and check your load data to see what powder/shot bushings you need before you go.

9 bucks is steep? even if the threaded rod is free, if you put more than 5 minutes of time into this project its already lost its value. grab it from hummasons and score some reloading supplies while youre there.
for the screwing around making your own I wouldnt even bother for the 9 bucks

Looking at pictures of it I would try 1/4" threaded rod. I'm not sure how it attaches to the base of the unit, but something along those lines should work.

Hell a stiff coat hanger might work.

Hey tg07lq, if you're making $9/five minutes, I'll come work for you! I understand sometimes it costs a dollar to save a dime, but the rod seemed like a simple thing that I could make with stuff I have lying around. Mostly, I just wanted to test it's functionality before I figure out what else I'll need in the way of supplies. I will need bottles, and yes, a couple wad guide fingers too. Plus the normal wads and shot and what not. Oh and bushings. Damn... it all adds up pretty quick, haha. It might be a month or two before I figure it out and save for everything I'll need! But that gives me time to disassemble, clean, and paint them....
