MEC and 700x powder

I am getting a bit frustrated...

Loading 12 gauge trap loads with 700 x powder...I have an adjustable bar,and for the love of god It is hard as hell to keep the powder charges close in charge weight.I am a loss right now.I thought of going back to bushings,but don't have the one(28 or 29)..has any one else had this issue.

Yes it has a baffle...It came with the bar kit...

Funny though,I find 700x has a settle factor...if I just dump it in my charges are high,if I settle the powder,it throws lower.And as you use the press(with all the shaking)it settles more..you would think the baffle would prevent it??
 
I'm sure you've tried it, but try hitting the charge bar a few times towards the powder hopper side.
 
700X is notorious for being difficult to meter, it's light and flakey so it bridges easily. My only suggestion is to try a different powder that is denser and has smaller flakes.

Agreed. If switching powder isn't an option, you could try rubbing the powder bottle and as much of the bar mech. as you can with a dryer sheet. Takes care of static. Might help a bit.
 
HUMMMM...static...I never thought of that...and yet I noticed it quite a bit..I keep my room at 30-40%....I am going to try the dryer sheet..My powder clings to the hull a bit..I think you are on to something..I will report results!!!

Retired English teacher with far too much time on our hands are we Rookie? At 6AM with less than a cup of coffee in me, trying to help out a fellow reloader in need, I may misspell a word. Help or don't hinder.

Generally speaking though, 700-X does meter far better than 800-X. How much variation are we talking about? If it is less than a grain variation(0.5 +/- target weight) than you probably shouldn't lose much sleep over it.

I was/am using 700X in a Lee Auto-disk, and I found the dryer sheet stopped the powder clinging to the sides. Hope it helps.
 
I would also get rid of that universal bar and go back to the mec bar with the white insert and two brass washers.
I have used 700x for well over 30 years some years 24 to 36 pounds with never a problem in mec 600's. sizemasters etc etc
Still use it in 12 ga loads in a 9000g mec. Static also has to be watched since it could be part of the problem

Just wondering if it has white flakes in it since I have heard of a batch that was giving some issues vs the yellow.

Well...well.well

To the fine gent that used a dryer sheet.It made a big difference.Call me haywire,but I took those sheets and rubbed the whole press.The biggest difference was tumbling the hulls with a dryer sheet......YEP!!....that worked.It seems the hulls are charged,the more I load the more the powder drop is charged...Take the charge away from the hull....my powder weights are
more consistent,AND no static cling of the powder in the hull or the drop!!!
