My NP34 came today, I'm actually quite impressed with it, I spent extra $$ to get MecGar mags for instead of Norinco mags but honestly the MecGar mgs do appear to be nicer than the Norinco mag but the MecGar mags stick and have feeding problems.

Is this usual, do I need to break them in?

Also, the plate that the ammunition sits on with the grooves pushes out of the opening of the top of the mag, it feels flimsy and just generally loose in a way that doesn't occur on my other firearms.

Thanks,
Tim.

hi tim

sorry to hear you have problems with the mecgar mags

i don't have a NP34, but my mecgar mags work as well as my factory mags on my sig 226, and have no issues, and they eject freely.

my sig mecgars have a plastic follower on the top and stays in place as per usual design, and does not push out

sounds like you need to try on the range, (or send back now for a refund and not try them out)

although a good mag or any mag does not require breaking in, it works at the start, or it doesn't at all or springs deteriote over time

could it be the norinco having tolerance problems, and need norinco mags?

from reviews i have read, factory mags are the best to start with (i suppose even if they are from china where the gun is made), and mec gar quality is up there, but to stay away from pro mags and what was u.s.a. mags.

just my two cents. regards

Mec gar mags are A1 for quality. The only issue I had in both my old Norc and my 2 new sigs is with the 10th round loaded the mag needs that extra bump to stay in as the spring is under pressure.

what type of ammo are you running? if they are reloads watch your over all length.

Post a pic so we can see abit more.

now hold on there- some mags DO require a break in, and i speak from experience- i've got some stainless south american mags for the 1911 when we used to get them 5/25 niw, either stainless or blue- some would eject in my 1911 right out, some would stick about half way, and some would just drop out of battery- i had about 25 mags to work with, and 2 1911 pistols- i changed springs and followers, reversing the springs in some, and in some cases , took the innards right out to see if the body stuck- some would stick in the remington, others in the colt, and some would eject from both- i isolated the troublemakers( i normally carry 8 -7 round mags on my belt)and for a while there i had a mix of stainless and blued- as each mag got more worn in, i changed it for one of the trouble makers, and eventually got them all to work- both of the 1911s( one was a series 70, the other a remington-rand) were well worn in with lots of mag changes, so i know it wasn't the pistols- besides, either would feed my WILSON mags

No, the Norinco mag works flawlessly.

I haven't tried loading any actual rounds yet, just snap caps. I even find it hard to get the snap caps in these MecGar mags, they make a snapping sound when I push down on them with my MagLula which is unusual.

They did come with these bright yellow prod like poles that almost look like golf tee's... am I doing something wrong?

These mags are really very stiff, I will provide a video.

Also,

If I have a round in the MecGar mag, I put the mag in the NP34 (the slide is closed) and rack it, sometimes-most of the time the round gets stuck and the slide won't close, chambering the round. It's really weird and disturbing.

The yellow 'golf tee' is a disassembly tool, you push it up through the hole in the baseplate. I have had MecGar mags for Sig and Beretta, they have always functioned properly.

I'm surprised, didn't heard bad comment before on Mec-gar. They are way superior that the factory Sig that I have (4). The ones I had in my issued Browning worked perfectly too

Sorry to hear that

Even with the highest quality items it's still possible to get one that doesn't work. Call the dealer that you bought them from, explain the problem, they may be willing to replace the problem mags. My experience with MecGars has always been excellent.

Yea, I was under the impression MecGar were top notch but both of the mags I ordered aren't working. It makes me wonder if it's something to do with my pistol?

Agreed. I far prefer the MecGar mags over the OEMs 10-rounders that came with my Sig. I would try a quick disassembly, clean, lube, and try them again.

I would be inclined to think that the problem is with your Norinco, not the mags. Mec-Gar makes OEM mags for many major gunmakers and their quality is generally top-notch. The "factory" mags that came with my Hi-Power were made by Mec-Gar and they are the smoothest, best constructed mags I've ever owned.

Strip them down and clean/lightly oil the insides. They could be cramed with packing oil which has zero lube properties.
I got a bunch for my 9mm 1911 and they are the cats ass. The Nork 9mm 1911 mags are pure garbage.

The MecGar magazines for my 1911 are flawless, and I would buy more without hesitation. Even the best manufacturers can have Q/C hiccups, and this should be kept in context when we run into a problem, provided the company stands behind their product. I am surprised that you had difficulty with more than one of the mags.

If the rounds are hanging up in the magazines, strip the mag and see if there is anything visibly wrong with the mag body or follower. If you meant that the mag is not fitting the gun properly, it could be a gun problem rather than a magazine problem. The feeding issue you refer to might be a feeding ramp issue or an ammunition issue, rather than a magazine issue.
