Hi guys,
curious about the norinco m14, do these need a lot of work to keep operating or are they pretty much trouble free.
I have zero mechanical abilities so a rifle that needs a lot of attention would not be a good fit for me.

No.
By and large, they take a lot less maintenance than a commercial semi auto centrefire, and when maintenance. is required, they are easier to work on.

andre66... There is a "reason" the M1 Garand and M14 are considered by many, To Be the BEST Battle Rifle EVER Designed...

Buy one, cause the supply is at it's PEAK right now...

Cheers

Andre, are you still in Aldergrove?
One of the M14 gurus just moved to Langley. If you do get one, I'm sure he will be able to solve any issue you might have later.

Thanks guys,
still living in Aldergrove so that is good to know there is a possible helping hand nearby. I put a downpayment down on one just now with Frontier.
Good m14 video on youtube on how to disassemble/assemble so between that and this site i should be fine.

I will be hosting the West Coast M14 Support group at my place again this year. 2008 was a pretty busy year but we managed 6 or 7 m14 clinics that turned out to be great fun and learning for many local gun nuts. Looking forward to many clinics in 2009 so any and all local and semi local gun nuts who are looking for "support" for thier M14 rifles, help is here

In my opinion, it is flat out dishonest to tell a guy who states that he has no ability to tinker that a Norinco M14 is a flawless and trouble free article. They are a great deal at $400, but every owner should expect to have to deal with issues on them.

My rifle needed repairs/modifications/adjustments to the rear sight and wood stock. It benefitted greatly from replacement of the flash suppressor and adjustment of the safety. If you have no skills with tools you should NOT be buying a Norinco M14.

luckily Andre66 lives real close to langley, have no fear of the m14s.
Although the rifle is prone to having a few "out of the box" issues, most are satsfactory to excellent out of the box rifles ( after degreasing of course)

come out to our clinics , you too will see just how easy it is to maintain your m14s. AND meet a whole whack of local cgn'ers who are real cool folks.

The only way to gain some mechanical inclination is to jump right into it.

You have a great deal of help with troubleshooting and maintenance within this community. You can stand to learn a great deal of skills and enjoy an excellent rifle. Go ahead and get one if you're interested in that. Mechanical things are nothing to be afraid of.

Looks like there will be enough advice and help on this forum for me to get the most out of the rifle.
