So its been a whilce since I applied for my PAL. When I called this week t get an update on my application, The CFO in Quebec told me they sent out a request to have a medical certificate filled out by my doctor on the 5th of May. I still havent recieved this letter.

Has this happened to anyone else?

still has not yet arrived. spoke yesterday again with the CFO, and with the CFC.
It is a medical certificate they are sending me and they want it filled out. That's all the info they gave me, As well as an authorization to communicate with my doctor.

as far as medical problems, I have been in the hospital a few times, normal stuff. broken bones and what not.

sounds to me like they want to know your psychological state. And they most likely want that authorization so they can bypass doctor-patient privacy. I figure so they can do it without you there and ask their loaded questions.

I'm just speculating however. But something similar has happened in the USA.

Sounds like your background check has caused some questions. A less than stellar person with the same name maybe? Something along that line?

I'm not sure what I would do about this, but I am pretty sure I wouldn't give them permission to speak with my doctor personally. Context would be very important in a conversation like that and I am guessing there might be some loaded questions asked of your doctor.

Keep us informed on this please. It may become very important. (I'm sure it already is to you).

If you have ever lost your drivers licence or had it suspended beacuse passed out/fainted and the doctor diagnosed it as stroke or other mandatorily reportable ailment to the ministry could possibly have triggered their wanting a report?

:agree:
To the best of my knowledge, the only medical info, other than psychological, that may be pertinent to obtaining a PAL is eyesight and I don't think you can be denied a PAL even if you are legally blind (it is a possession licence as well). I agree with Tango 2. I think they are trying to get a look at your medical records to see if you have every had a psych diagnosis. When you get your letter, I'd forward a copy to the NFA to see what they have to say. If you checked No on Question c) of Section C of your application and are not lying, I can't see how it's any of their business to talk to your doctor. Just my two cents.

Cheers:cheers:

Actually.. My blind friend.. has a non restricted and restricted pal... I went with him to the course and taught him all the diffrent ammo types by touch. I even made him memorize the types of firearms and ammo so he knew just by touching it what is suposed to load ect. He would also confrim it with the instructor before loading it this is 45 acp this is 39 special this is 357 mag.. this can only load 45acp all by touch.. he beat most people that can see..

I did read the questions to him and he answered them.. I did his paper work and he signed it he got his pal with no issuses what so ever..

Would you let the CFO have unrestricted access to talk to your lawyer, discussing confidential details?

Didn't think so. Your doctor-patient relationship is just as protected.

I'd call NFA CSSA and a lawyer on this one.

Coming from Quebec CFO, it's not completely surprising.

Once they get enough people to comply with that they can declare it's now official policy. It's a very slippery slope.

Contact the CSSA, they may be interested.

Of course you are probably impatient to get your PAL, but for everyone's sake don't cave in too easily.

You could also tell them that they will get an answer from your 'médecin de famille' as soon as they provide you with one...:nest:

Get some lube...BOHICA, bend over here it comes again. Sounds like the CFO has been working overtime thinking up new angles to make people jump through hoops. I'd worry about this becoming the norm.

you may want to talk to your references that you have supplied on the applications...they may have made some inane comment which may undoubtedly "teabagged" you at this moment....friends...ex wives...ex gf...etc
