Meet SKS #4 to replace the one I foolishly sold last year...

Very nice specimen:) I must wait fews weeks and then hunt for a 1950 and 1951 both with hardwood:)

Yes, very nice. I only have 1 SKS, a Chinese one with (yawn) super boring wood. I think I'll pick up a nice Russian one with a hardwood stock oozing with character in the next month and this boring Chinese one will have some work done on it. I'll take pics. :)

Not every refurb was issued to troops and saw "action". Sometimes the effects of time, moisture, cold, etc. can have an impact on metal (rust) and wood (cracks)... which necessitate rebluing, BBQ painting :p, replacement stocks, etc.

I have a '52 refurb that I bought from Ki11ercane that had a mirror shine bore, and an absolutely brand new bolt, bolt carrier, recoil spring, etc... however the stock was replaced. I suspect it sat in storage, suffered some damage, and was then re-arsenaled with the better and stronger laminate stock. The bayonet was also re-blued and the gas tube was replaced, probably due to corrosion.

please don't ruin my fantasy :D

Just got her today.

Yep, she's mint and non-refurbished. :dancingbanana:

Yes, this rifle is from my personnal collection.

It's a very nice rifle, but with some damage to the stock from shipping.

When it's time to ship guns, IZH are not very serious.

I have another one, it's a IZHEVSK dated 1954, absolutely mint, and a tack driver.

I keep it:D

All 3 small dents mostly steamed out (antique furniture restoration and preservation is my other hobby), cosmo and soot cleaned off, and a complete boiling water wash of all metal parts done. She's waxed, oiled and sparkles. :) The wood looks gorgeous. Almost as nice as my MINT '51 Tula that you sold me last year. I actually prefer the darker red/black comboc finish on this one.

True, but when SHTF only one is a drill bit away from 30 rds!

How many mags you got? How easy are they to reload? The SKS is "one drill bit away" from being able to do lightning quick 10 round reloads all day long, from a 220 round bandolier.:nest:

Of course the only "SHTF" we'll likely see is rising gas prices after the US/Israeli front invades Iran to deal with their oil, I mean "nuclear threat".

my cz 858 came with 4 5/30 round mags that's 120 rounds in 4 mag changes if you made it prohibited by drilling the rivet as opposed to 12 x loading 10 rnd stripper clips and once you have emptied your last magazine you just feed strippers to it just like the sks.and have your 220 round bandoleer. cz 858 wins :) i still love my sks tho

You will note that the buttstock on the '54 is about 5/16 inch longer than the '51 and '52. I had to take a tape measure to confirm, as I thought it was a camera illusion. I wonder if that was standard in '54, or was it simply a matter of lack of QC at Tula? :)
