I know nothing about this rifles licensing, I'm thinking of their previous HK licensing and agreed it could be something similar. I know nothing about this, just talking out of my ass.

So it just happens to look and function exactly like a HK416 and MKEK's history of license-producing HK firearms is merely coincidental. Instead, it is a brilliant expression of Turkish indigenous technical prowess, a manifestation of greatness of the proud young republic. All hail Ataturk!

Turkey had a licensing agreement with HK at once upon a time. Don't know if they still do.
I wouldn't put a lot of credibility as to the 'official'/'real'/internet version of which gov't is paying/doing what with which company, as, I don't know if anyone has noticed, but some stuff posted on the WWW isn't always 100% reliable. I'm not saying, just sayin'.
Some surplus Turkish HK products, ie. MP5s, G3s, etc have made their way here to Canada, and the ones I played with, were fine.
The one being held up in the pic looks pretty good to me and if they were offered for sale here, I'd buy one. Or two.

Here is what I could find about the gun, but since I am not so familiar with the gun jargon this might not make much sense.
The Mehmetcik-1 is indeed the first national assault rifle developed by Turkish designers. It is planned to replace the G3 rifles used by the Turkish infantry.
The rifle weighs 3.6 kilograms and has a range of 200 to 500 meters. It has binoculars (telescopic?), 5 times adjustable butt, silent setting system (silencer?) and a locker (??). It is superior to M4s because the heating problem is resolved by a “gas piston system.”
It is going take at least two years before its serial production for the Turkish army.

They probably tell the German if they put a gag on HK over patent infringement, then they MIGHT consider buying the Typhoon instead of JSF. Or maybe the German is just doing that so they might be integrated faster into the German led-EU army lol.

I believe them when they say they manufactured it, but if the rifle he's holding in the pic isn't piece for piece a 416, I'll eat my hat. It's even got a HK mag and stock set on it.
I'm not sure why they're saying they designed it, it's a 416. Is this a national pride on small arms design issue? They've been building HKs for years, and German guns under license for over 100 years. What's the deal with this one?

OK, here is our newly designed Canadian battle rifle. After years of research and development, I present to you, the C-516. Nothing else has ever been built like this all Canadian project.
