melonite a barrel ?

Joel Kendrick out of the USA has done a bunch of these and has a shop they use to do barrels,

also BAT actions can be melonited for 50 bucks before they leave the factory,

seems to work for them but you must get those that do a good job to do it

I am presently getting a BAT action done in edmonton and will let you know how it turns out

i would get a barrel done in the usa BUT THE PROBLEM is to get it broke in first then done up

a pain in canada yup

there is no "specialist" in canada to treat a barrel unfortunately. The best bet, if any, is Joel Kendrick is the US. But even then, there is still a risk of facing a "scrap" barrel. There is too many interrogation to even try it at this point. Like you mention, dealing with an industrial shop, for me at least, is not an option. It must be done by shooters.

Jefferson, did you bought your BAT from Joe ##### ?

It's one of those processes that would need to be tuned specially for doing barrels, but there's not enough barrels to be done to justify the cost.
I would think that a special set up for gas nitriding would do better than salt bath.

i decided to threat an old barrel to verify the result. Its an pold Krieger in 308win which i already have a load of course. I will compare with previous velocity and have a friend look Inside with a bore scope.

Did you by any chance lap or smooth the bore?

Old barrels can be rough or show firecracking and if that is treated and becomes even harder, might damage bullets and lead to severe fouling.

Just a thought
