Mentoring

It is nice to see all the good will out there. I am in the interor of BC the Okanagan and I would be glad to help out any newbie in our beloved sport. I am taking my oldest son next weekend up North fot moose a 12 hr drive but the time out with him is worth it. All my kids hunt and we introduce a lot of young people to it each year. Friends of ours two older boys will be going out with me this fall as well. I guess I am getting older now since I have been hunting for nearly 40 years.

A good friend of mine (who is about 20 years older than I) was a great mentor to me and from about age 14 to 18 took me bow hunting whitetail and taught me everything I know. I wouldn't be half the hunter I am today if it wasn't for him. We are great friends to this day (he was my best man) and still enjoy hunting together. He has since mentored 4 or 5 other boys including his sons that are in there upper teens now and are all great whitetail hunters too. He is passionate about the sport and just wants to share it with others he knows. If everybodyw as like that I think we would have a lot less anti's and more people enjoying the sports that we all do. Unfortunately my kid brother is too weak in the stomach for the gutting part and refuses to come out with me anymore. I got my brother in law into it and he is a pretty good hunter now. Can't wait till my boys are older. I want to try taking my 5 y/o out this year to see what he thinks. Problem is keeping little guys warm in November.

I've hunted deer and turkey for the last three years in southwestern ont. wmu 86 with success, but I would like to try geese and duck this year. With no real property to hunt on (or the expense of the equipment to see if I like it nor not), I would greatly appreciate tagging along with someone who has done this before. I would also be willing to mentor any new turkey hunters. Your place or mine.;)

Anyone in the Ottawa/Embrun area willing to take a newb goose hunting? Working stiff so weekends are best. I understand the season is long so hopefully we can work something out, but if I have to, my throat might be getting a little sore (wink wink). New to hunting in general. Please PM me. This thread is a great idea, and when I know more I'd be more than willing to pay this forward.
Thanks in advance.

Hey guys,

I'm in the london area (thorndale) and looking for a more experienced hunter to go out with for waterfowl mostly, maybe deer in 91A. Have been shooting for years but relatively new to hunting and a total newb with waterfowl!
Let me know!

Thanks
Darren

New hunter in Calgary (been out once) looking for a mentor. Looks like I lost my hunting buddy this year and while I guess I could go alone, I'd rather not just yet. I'm not sure I'd be able to field dress a deer without spoiling most of it without someone to talk me through it, for one :D

Anyone?

I'm new to hunting birds (waterfowl and grouse) and would love for someone to take me out. None of my friends really have any desire to hunt birds. I'm in the Ottawa South area.

Bird Hunting Newbie (that would be me)

Is there anyone in the Regina area who'd be interested in taking a newbie bird hunter out on his first bird hunt and show him the ropes thereof? My tentative plans to go birding with someone experienced have fallen through, unfortunately. And needless to say I'm not ready to go solo yet. I've got my own shotgun. I'll happily pay for gas/lunch/ammo.

Cheers and Happy Thanksgiving!

Brian

I have myself a unique situation... i have hunted big game for over 10 years now and love it... I have witnessed and helped take probably 30 large game animals amongst me and my mentors... now i am teaching my gf who has recently taken up the sport and would take mroe along and show them all the do's and dont's of large game hunting. The only problem is i have moved away from my old hunting grounds.... and in edmonton now i have no idea where to go for hunting that is anywhere nearby within an hour or so. . . so if anyone knows anyone with private land large enough to hunt on and wants to learn how to big game hunt. give me a shout, but you must be able to help me find some land for us to hunt on.

I have taken out three people today for small game. We went out before about three weeks ago with no luck. I got one grouse and missed too many to count and the others missed rabbits and grouse. I will be taking these people out deer hunting as well. It is their first season hunting. It is my sons first season as well, with his hunting license he has been out since before he could walk.

Anyone around Ottawa region willing to take a seasoned duck/upland hunter for a deer hunt? I know the season's almost over now, but I have a muzzleloader and a sluggun for the december muzzleloader only season.

Been trying to get out deer hunting in the past 7 years but seems noone around ottawa allows hunters anymore. Either it's the darn yuppies moving out in the country or farmers having previous bad experience with numb nut hunters.

It's hard enough being a gun owner in Ontario, so are there any Gunnutz who could use/tolerate an extra hand in deer camp? :)

Cheers
