A friend took his 16 year old son Adam, out of school yesterday to come deer hunting. One of his first days in the field, and he has his apprenticeship papers so I loaned him my 7mm Weatherby and seeing as I'd already taken a 10 point yesterday morning, I let him use my tree stand. At 4:30 last night I heard the shot, picked up my cell to text him and it was already ringing. He told me he'd shot a good buck, not the little spike we'd seen and that he dropped him solid in his tracks. I asked Adam how his heart was. He told me he was about ready to have a heart attack. I told him that's good, but don't even think of trying to get out of the stand for 10 minutes because his legs are gonna be rubber. I got more excitement out of seeing him get a good buck than I did shooting my own 10 point earlier in the day. His dad was pretty excited too. :)

I guess I'm doing ok at the guiding game this year. A friend of mine took her first deer last night from the same stand as the other 2. She was shooting my Browning Medallion A bolt 270 and made a 35' shot on this little 6 point buck. Perfect double lung shot but he still ran with no blood trail for almost 100 yards into thick bush before piling up into a mud hole. One very happy woman. :)

Great to see!! When a man finds himself feeling great when a friend makes the shot, (and more so when a young hunter bags his first) we sorta know we are the old guy. But that is a feeling that hmmm well its hard to describe hey.

Three bucks off the same stand within 3 days, not bad. Congrats to the kids and congrats with your buck as well.
