meopta binos..thoughts and opinions

whos using them and how do ya like them...I have leupold cascades and am wondering if I should upgrade or not..been looking at the Zen Rays also....looking for hands on opinions
Wheres the best place to buy
 
I tried the Cabelas Euro HD 10x42 which are Meopta HD and they were superb optically! Ergonomically they felt a bit large but not too much. I would also prefer if they has 8X42.

Vortex Vipers are also very nice and cheaper. I ended up buying the Vipers HD 8x42. I think they are better value for $ but I am selling them and going all the way to Swaros. I don't know if I can optically tell the difference between the Vipers, Meoptas and Swaros but ergonomically the Swaros beat all IMHO.

Drop me a line if you want new 8x42 Viper HDs at a great price.
 
Well, as it happens, I just got a pair of Meopta Meopro 8x42 binos today. Long story behind them, and it does not belong here... but here's my two cents' worth:

Right off the bat: I did not compare them side by side with Vortex Vipers (which I was going to buy,) or other more expensive brands (can't justify the $$$.) However, my initial impression of Meopta is very favorable: Solidly built, very clear glass, no "rolling ball" effect in the image. Colors are life-like, and there's plenty eye relief for those of us with eye glasses. Also, the Canadian distributor of Meopta (Canadian Outdoor Distributing) is a solid company that looks after its customers, so I trust Meopta warranty as well.

If possible, check them side by side with Vipers. But my guess is that you would not be disappointed with Meoptas.

They seem to be very good in low light... I took them out last nite just for determining their low-light performance, and in the moonlight I could see way more detail than I expected.

Please remember I have NOT compared these side-by-side with other makes of same size, just to my old binos (Bushnell and Bausch and Lomb, both "compacts," with smaller objectives.) Needless to say, these 8x42 MeoPros win hands-down. MeoStars, or other "HD" binos may be even "better."

And, I'm glad I opted for the 8 power - looking at points of light in distance sure show how difficult it is to keep binos steady. 10 power would have been too much for my liking. Also, the exit pupil in 10x42 will be smaller, limiting the low light performance.

And since this an open forum: Unlike some of the competitors, these are not manufactured in the Far East, perhaps even using child labour... Let the flames begin.
 
I bit the bullet and ordered the 10x42's(mainly because of the price point) for a total of $625....even if i dont like them I guess I can sell them to hopefully recoup my funds....I have 8x42 cascades already so I have both power ranges covered even though different manufacturers
I had 10x42cascades before and liked them alot, but that was before they grew legs

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how things shape up in a comparison between the two...I'll make sure post my findings/opinions
 
Sure is a heck of a good deal if they are anything like the HD version I tried. I plan on being state-side in a couple of weeks where there will be a Cabelas within driving distance. I think I will drop by and check out the non-HD ones vs the HD ones vs. Swaros.

Man I can't wait till the Cabelas opens up here in Barrie in 2014!
